The New York State Capitol has served as the seat of government for New York since the 1880's. Over 125 years old, the building is a marvel of late 19th-century architectural grandeur. Built by hand of solid masonry, it took 5 architects and 32 years to complete. Over the years meticulous restoration has been done to maintain and protect the Capitol for future generations of New Yorkers.

We walked around downtown, noticed this amazing looking building and had to journey to see it up close. We have seen several capitol buildings and this one blows all others out of the water. A must see if you are close!!

We went on a trip to the Capitol building and it was actually pretty cool. I think the best parts were seeing where the legislatures meet to complete their work on a daily basis. It was interesting to see how the NY state government works...More

We did not tour the building itself, but we relaxed in the park for a bit and enjoyed an excellent lunch from one of the food trucks nearby. It was clean, well kept and quiet despite the proximity to roadways and state buildings. The main...More

seen the ancient buildings of Europe, and this place is right up there with the most ornate and beautiful. Staircase detail is unreal. I got to wander through the house chamber, everyone was so accommodating.

We had a few hours to spare in Albany and decided to take a tour of the State Capital. What a beautiful building filled with history. The tour was about an hour long, and our guide was excellent and very knowledgable. Highly recommend.

Parking can be a bit of a mess around the area, but we found a place in a neighborhood west of the museum. The Capitol is beautiful with architecture to make even a jaded 53 year old smile. We did our own tour, but they...More
