What a lovely museum! We were particularly enthralled by the Hudson River artists room, but the temporary exhibits were delightful compelling. The history rooms were interesting, too. So glad the museum was open on Monday.

As a former Albany resident, I always enjoyed visits to the Albany Institute. It’s still one of my favorite museums. The history of the city and the region come to life in a very special way here.

Visited for the Hudson River Exhibits, which are a very good education on that style, with about 80 paintings. Quality not up there with the Metropolitan Museum, Chicago Art Institute, etc., but this is a minor museum in what is really a minor city. It...More

Stopped by with a friend from out of town on the Saturday around noon. We found the exhibit of the work of William B Schade to be very enjoyable. It was somewhat whimsical but an exhibit I would recommend.

This art museum is a great spot to spend 2-3 hours during an afternoon. The exhibits change often, so even if local to Albany, can go often and still see something new. AAA and student discounts make it reasonable price-wise as well.

Tucked into what appears to be a small building is a wealth of history and art. While the museum is small compared to others in the area it certainly keeps your interest. It features quite a bit of history and art from the Albany area...More

A wonderful place to take out-of-town guests, family, and friends. Always rotating galleries most having to do with the history or possible future of New York! Free to go. There is a suggested donation. 😎

The Hudson River School is a group of 19th cent. romantic landscape painters of the Hudson River valley and surrounding areas. The museum has a very good selection of their more modestly sized paintings, in particularly examples of lesser known members of the group. This...More
