Nazareth, Tiberias, and the Sea of Galilee Day Trip from Tel Aviv

364 reviews
Visit Nazareth and the Sea of Galilee on a full-day trip from Tel Aviv to some of Israel’s most important Christian sites. You’ll follow the path of Jesus and the apostles as you visit places where Jesus is believed to have been born, taught, performed miracles, and been baptized. Since the tour is tailored to New Testament sites, it’s a great way to experience Israel’s Christian heritage with limited time.

Beautiful site full of ancient history. Best visited on a sunny day. The surrounding grounds are peaceful.

Many early Christian experiences have occurred in the Tabgha area, yet this lovely church honors the extraordinary miracle of Jesus feeding the multitude with 5 loaves and 2 fish, as written in Luke 9:16, as well as other books of the Gospel in The Bible. Known for the beautiful mosaics in recognition of this miracle and other scenes, the lovely, peaceful church has a welcoming inner courtyard with an olive tree as its focal point. We enjoyed a hot cappuccino and snack before entering the church in the early morning, prior to the arrival of all of the tours.

Very unfriendly staff. We walked in the park with our kid (then six years old) and just wanted to sit in the shadows when someone of the staff came and shouted that we had to leave the premises immediately and why we walked in. When we answered that the entrance was open we were told that this could not be true. We left immediately and we will sure never come back.

We visited two sites of Tabgha on both our recent trip to the area and on our previous trip, 5 or 6 years earlier. While the area near the monastery (and the Seven Well area) is interesting, I found that the Church of Peter's Primacy was much more inspiring and thought-provoking. Located at (or near) the traditionally accepted site on the shore of the Sea of Galilee of Christ's raising St. Peter to be the head of the Church, the Church here has the actual rock surface on the floor of the church in front of the altar. You cannot visit Tabgha without thinking intensely about Christ's life on earth and his founding of Christianity and the Catholic Church.
