There are many galleries in Safed but none at all like Yom Tov's. He was a computer animator in the US for many years before becoming religious and moving to Israel. He is a lot of fun to talk to, innovative in his art and style, funny, highly intelligent and a very nice person. Once we were talking to him and he was creating a really cool portrait of the Lubavitcher Rebbe made out of letters of the Hebrew alphabet. It was really interesting to see him at work. He was very generous with his time and even shared a ringtone that he had on his phone with my teenage son- it was the sound of the light sabers being drawn in Star Wars or some other science fiction geek friendly sound. He has original art of his own on sale and of others, postcards, posters, some art in fabric and all sorts of things to look at. He will happily explain his work and thought process with anyone who asks. The store is air-conditioned and near a great little convenience store where you can buy a cold drink. My recommendation: buy a cold soda and go into Yom Tov's gallery to say hello and see what he's up to. A fun way to spend a half hour.…

This is a very nice gallery, but like many others. The added touch here is that you can sometimes come and see one of the artist at work, creating a piece.

This gallery carries hand-made items by local and regional artists such as hand-loomed prayer shawls (tallisim), skull caps (kepah), candelabras (menorahs) and other religious items and art work. The items are beautiful, many of which are created from naturally hand-dyed wool, cotton, silk and other materials. I would highly recommend a visit to this shop.…
