About
The Holy Caves are the centre of ancient Nazareth. Many experts believe that Nazareth never actually existed at the time of Jesus due to lack of findings. Well these caves are proof that there certainly Was life here in Nazareth pre-Jesus, but it was all in an underground city built over centuries by Jews and early Christians trying to escape Roman persecution. Here at the Holy Caves you'll get a free guided tour in the only caves you are allowed access to in Nazareth. You'll be transported back in time and shown exactly where Mary walked to gather water through a network of tunnels that have yet to be excavated. What's more, you'll get the opportunity to see what could possibly be the world's first Christian alter.

The church above it was closed and a women tried to chase us away but didn’t speak any English. Luckily we saw a small sign in Russian before we exited the premises and entered the caves. Entry fee is donation based.

In this right place was the first days of Jesus. It is a rememberance of a new chapter of humanity started with Him: the GRACE came down to Earth for All of us.

Small sample of the caves that go under all of Nazareth.
Truly remarkable insight into the time around Christ. They hid to hide from the Romans so I guess there was no above ground Nazareth in the day.
Donation entry.

A tiny yet Special Place
Jun 2018 • Family
This is a little off-the-beaten-path for visitors in Nazareth: hidden behind a public parking lot you enter a structure covering the entrance to a cave that served as a hiding place for early Christians (and Jews) in times when these faiths were not very popular....

Entrance is free of charge but they will encourage you to make a donation for keeping the place, which is fair enough. The place is not big and in less than 10 minutes you'll cover the entire area - it is worth a visit especially for Christian tourists or people looking for something that's a bit special compared to the classic churches and market trail in Nazareth.

A place that keeps a cave hiding Christians by oppressors oppression. You do not have much to see. In addition, only a person takes care of this place and gives you no explanation as to what this place is. Anyway, if you decide to visit it, everything will end in 5 minutes. It's not worth it.

Hello Thanks for your feedback. It's always important to hear all views. Having said that, I'm a little confused by your comments. The Caves is a Holy site containing thousands of years of history. Entry is free, and there are people available to answer all your questions. We don't advertise as being anything other than that. Thanks again Andrew
