An old palace , it is now a museum. There is a guided tour in the museum with full explanation where you are brought into the Royal Audience room. There is Gamelan and dance performances on Wednesdays while only Gamelan on Sundays. In one side building they have the old horse carriages displayed. A souvenir shop is also on site.

Palace in a sad condition - need refurbishment - big compound yet nothing to see. Maybe some plants is good enough though.

So the prince is really staying here. It is a really nice house and one can see that they were really a feudal kingdom with the way they had palace dances, royalty staying in the houses nearby and a whole system related to their culture. It is a wonderful first hand visit of their thinking / life etc. They have... More

The palace has many antiques, and the royal family is still residing inside, within the private areas. It is quiet during our visit around 3PM.

Peaceful place, alternatif tourism object in Solo Area, Near Pasar Triwindu Ngarsopuro a traditional market selling antiques. Although the traditional market, antique market is located at Jalan Diponegoro Solo, has a fresh new look, modern and remained cultured

I enjoyed both trips to Pura Mangkunegaran. You need a guide to tour the small well-kept palace, filled with original decorations and historic artefacts. The inner courtyard with the surrounding pavillions & verandah are very pretty. A very well-spent hour.

This palace is in Solo and if you are staying in Yogyakarta this palace is a 2 hour ride. One can take the car ride to see the interesting country side. This place looks a bit run down and certainly was very quiet when I visited. It is the palace of the solo King and the palace is where the... More

This is the second palace of Solo/Surakarta and the royal family actually still lives here. You are guided through the courtyard, several rooms & halls and are shown a lot of gifts and posessions. The guides are friendly and tip-based (1-2eur) and very informative. Unfortunately we did not visit on wednesday- or saturday-morning, so no music or dance performance. The... More

I recommend you get the tour guide (it may be compulsory) to learn the history. It was flooded, for example, in 1866, which is why the marble is discoloured. A fascinating walk, albeit run down. I do wish the government would assist in restoring this to what it was. A step back in time for sure.
