About
Interact with long-tailed macaques in their natural habitat in the peaceful ambience of Bali’s lush forests. The Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary is home to over 1,200 monkeys. As you walk alongside them, you can also check out all the elaborate temples in the area. While guides are always on watch, keep an eye on your belongings and avoid bringing both food and water bottles along. The sanctuary is open daily and an entrance fee is required. You might want to combine your visit to the sanctuary with other attractions in Ubud, including the rice terraces and ancient landmarks. – Tripadvisor

    Amazing wildlife expereience
This is a very popular tourist location where the monkeys roam free and the visitors walk along paths amongst the monkeys. Our bus driver said we should spend between 60 and 90 minutes there. Signs warn you about the rules for the park. They emphasise that you must look after your posessions because the monkeys will try to take them - including hats, spectacles and cameras. They say the monkeys can be quite aggressive. We hadn't walked very far into the park before I felt a monkey trying to get something out of the pocket in my pants. I turned around and yelled at him which made him show his teeth and snarl at me. I moved on quickly. Soon afterwards another monkey snatched the water bottle that my granddaughter was carrying. We then watched in amazement as the monkey twisted the top off the bottle (just like a human). He then poured the contents on the path and started drinking the water off the path. Later, people told us that the monkeys sometimes swig directly from the bottle. We saw monkeys jumping onto someone's lap and other monkeys sitting on someone's shoulder or head. In one case, the monkey was gripping the girl's forehead and seemed as though he was about to gouge her eye. Plenty of people were posing for photos with these monkeys. Towards the end of our tour, one monkey got hold of the bottom of my daughter's dress and looked as though he was going to climb up. We chased him off. This was an amazing expereience.

The Monkey forest is “a must” if you go to Ubud, and I don’t see why it is. Yeah, it’s fun for maybe half an hour to see all of the monkey playing around and everything, but you can even see that from outside without even paying the entrence fee. Also, we thought that it would be much bigger, you can actually see the whole “forest” in about 15minutes. I wouldn’t recommend going to Ubud just to see the Monkey forest as it’s very touristy. But if you are going there anyway, just be careful and follow the rules, one of the monkeys stole my glasses but the staff got it back for me thankfully! 😅 But there is no reason to be afraid of the monkeys as there is staff all around the property, and they are very friendly👍🏻

    Short visit fine
We felt we couldn’t leave ubud without doing the monkey forest. We are glad we did but Felt it would have been fine to miss it also. You can walk there at the end of the Main Street in ubud. Maybe 10 min walk from the centre of town. We had read and heard so many scary things about the monkeys we were probably a little jumpy and scared. They are certainly cheeky and unpredictable, to the point we felt it hard to relax but the grounds are just beautiful and if you have some distance from them they are a pleasure to watch. My 10 years olds were ready to go out of fear once we had been there for about 15 mins. There was a storm overhead too so that was making them act a little differently. I would do it again but wouldn’t be worried at all if I didn’t.

It's a real jungle adventure, no doubt about it. You get to hang out with these mischievous monkeys in a lush, tropical setting, which sounds awesome, right? Well, it is, but there's a catch. These little guys are cheeky as heck and not shy about swiping your stuff if you're not careful. So, be on guard and leave your valuables at home. The temple inside is pretty cool, though, and the whole place has this mystical vibe. If you're a fan of monkeys and can handle a bit of monkey business, it's worth a visit. Just watch your sunglasses!

The day I visited, "Monkey Selfie" was available only at 15:00.
(It varies everyday)

As I went there in the morning, I didn’t wanna wait till 15:00 and left around 12:00

But the day ticket is available to come back (re-enter) if it is the same day

Entry 80,000 for weekday
Selfie 50,000

If you go to Monkey Forest for a selfie, you should ask the timing of the day at the ticket booth first so you can use your day more effectively.
Said that I don't think you can get the accurate information of the selfie timing if you ask it on previous day. You better ask only in the morning of the day you are visiting.

Lovely setting, lots of monkeys to be seen climbing through the trees and sitting around the temples. Shady pathways and jungle. Very clear instructions for what to do and not do around the monkeys so didn’t have any problems. Really fun thing to see!

Lovely place to visit, to see the Monkeys in their natural surroundings and so many of them. Beautiful shady forest walks.
Spoilt slightly by the amount of visitors at one time and people carrying water bottles, the monkies will take them and jump on you to get them. Signs warning you of this so suggest keep them in bags.

We have been here 15 times previously. They have torn up the forest and made a parking lot and they've torn up a lot of the forest and made block pads and cement statues that are lovely but they have nothing to do with the monkey Forest is it actually was they've also taken many of the monkeys out of their natural habitat and remove them so that they can build this Disneyland zoo. The price is 100 IDR $7.usa. the ticketing office looks like something for SeaWorld in San Antonio Texas. For the first hour of walking up to it paying and walking in it took at least an hour before we even saw a monkey. It was not a natural habitat. They were feeding the monkeys and had feeding areas for the monkeys. The monkeys appeared to be intimidated or aggressive. At the feelings they would feed too much food and the monkeys would fight when there was a lot of food. The monkey would share if there was one banana. Previously we would see them sharing but now they will steal food from another one even though the food is free from the feeding men. There were way too many people. The people were all talking very loudly screaming having their cell phones on and trying to do video chats which scares off the monkeys. It's not a sanctuary . It is a natural zoo. If you have never seen a monkey I highly recommend it you might see one. They should have signs saying "quiet please " so that it's not like a Tourist screaming match inside the forest.

Wandered around the monkey forest for hours just watching the monkeys playing, fighting, and being generally mischievous. It costs about £5 each and you can stay as long as you like. The monkeys don’t seem stressed or unhappy and are free to roam around lots of forest or terrorise the people of central Ubud 😂 there’s plenty of food available for them and it’s nice to get out of the crazy busy centre for a bit! They aren’t particularly frightened of people so if you sit still for long enough don’t be surprised if one comes and sits with you! Don’t take plastic bottles etc in as the monkeys will likely steal them for their entertainment.

We really enjoyed our time in the monkey forest! It is green and lush and there are lots of guides around who can help answer any questions. Make sure to follow the rules and don’t bring in food and drinks and also don’t make eye contact with the monkeys!

Had to get rabies shot, antibiotics...
Hope everything will be fine. Wile I was there I saw monkeys jump on head of 2 tourists... I really don't recommend this place. They feed the monkeys so monkey steal everything to get food back. And since they are always starving, they do everything for food.
Go to bukit lawang see monkeys and orangutan if you want real natural way of seeing monkeys.

We went as a family. Went early in mid i g and stayed for the show at 11am it jarred one hour. Was great to watch snd was included i ticket. Saves paying g for a show somewhere else. Monkeys are well behaved and we enjoyed looking at them. Gardens are well looked after and rangers are there to make sure people treat the monkeys well. A good experience.
