This small museum at the north end of Sanur Beach evokes a time of innocence and beauty before the introduction of relatively recent laws banning "immodest dress." Even more impressive than the paintings by the Belgian artist of the young Balinese dancer he married and her friends is the small mansion in which the art and artifacts are housed: a lovely example of Balinese architecture decorated with finely carved and gilded wooden shutters.

You must visit this museum if for no other reason than to add your voice to request the government to spend some money on the museum to restore and maintain it with the care that it deserves. If you are genuinely interested in art or...More

This was an interesting spot to visit but suspect there is an issue with funding since there isn't a lot being done to maintain the exhibits - dusty and tired. It's a shame because if it were it would be easier to recommend to others....More

Mr. Le Mayeur had an amazing love for Bali (and his Balinese wife). The grounds must have been wonderful in their heyday. Well worth a visit to see how the artist incorporated his studio and life. The museum is very small with several examples of...More

This historic place was amazing and the center of attraction was its architecture and the calligraphy over the pictures and the terracotta.

I was walking along Sanur beach when I found this museum behind the trees. First. I thought it was closed because no one seen and very quiet. But turned out I saw someone explaining something to some visitors. Apparently he was the guide. The entry...More

Well designed and a great theme. However, not maintained well and in urgent need of renovation. Plenty of potential.

This museum was very much neglected. Great building but the place was badly maintened. But must importantly the paintings were not looked after. Which was very sad.

The house is intricately designed and the architecture is very traditional but the paintings themselves are old, worn away and often covered in dust. The place is also very small, you can make your way round in no more than half an hour. It was...More

It is really sad to see that the house of this Belgian painter and his Balinese wife is terribly neglected. It must have been beautiful 80 years ago when he built it. The doors and windows are all in sculpture wood. The twin walls are...More

at the north end of Sanur just past the Bali Beach Hotel it is a lovely walk as the avenue is wide and tree shaded or you can ride a bike - my husband usually hires one for the month so rides everywhere but I like to walk
