While going from Ooty to Coimbatore, please take route via Emerald, Avalanche, Pilloor dam. It's a beautiful journey with minimum traffic. Many times you will be alone with no one around, except some wild animals. You may sight elephants also. There are some places which allow fishing in Emerald/Avalanche lake. I am yet to try those places. This will make... More

Excellent views, many view points all over the roads around, just choose your spot as you go. Don't worry too much about Google Map showing this or that, just download the offline area in advance and don't blindly follow the Navigation Instructions rather choose from the position you are in. Pure Nature, no cranky noisy crowd. PLASTIC LOVERS - KEEP... More

We had great expectations for this lake. Unfortunately there has not been rain for 3 years so its not much of a lake and definitely not Emerald. Its a pretty spot but not sure its worth the long trip getting there.

The Emerald Dam and views, We stopped by a bridge and they were so nice to watch and kill time. We spent around 20 minutes at the Emerald lake and splurged happily with nature.

Technically a dam that too with TNEB control, the access is limited and photography banned, the lake offers excellent views. There was a small children's park on the right side of the entrance which is in dilapidated condition. If Department of Tourism in conjuction with TNEB promotes this, it offers a very beautiful tourist destination.

While we had been planning going to Avalanche Dam halfway there a taxi told us the dam had been closed for maintenance. Hotels i the city apparently have no communication regarding the same! At least ours did (Tea Nest, Coonoor). So we tried to get permission at the Emerald Dam office to let us visit the Lake. They said no.... More

Drive up here: 11°19'44.7"N 76°36'51.8"E It's the coordinates of the bridge that links both the Emerald and Avalanche lakes. These are among the very few not so spoilt places across the Nilgiris. Drving direction - While driving from Ooty, stick on to MDR 1071 (via Fern Hill) and don't let Google Maps fool around with you!

While driving from Ooty, Emerald lake comes first. This place is close and ahead of Avalanche. If the water level would have been fair enough, the beauty of the lake would have been very very good. Unfortunately due to very low water level, the lake's beauty dropped.

We had a great time and were well taken care of from start to finish. Amazing! Beautiful view of the lake. Never ending natures beauty , a sight one can't miss , its crystal clear water is pure and transparent . Many shades of water can be observed depending on the position of the sun!
