The lake was mainly for various types of boating. Except sparrows all over no water birds were there. The other side was noisy with adventure and fun rides.

Ooty lake is a must visit during a trip to Ooty.
there are many things to do here
- roam in the small garden
- walk across the lake - the roads are just amazing right after boat house - 2
- horse rides for kids
- and a boat ride - first you have to buy tickets to enter the boat house and then rent the boat of your preference. we took a pedal boat, it costs rs. 700 (including deposit)... its better to take for an hour, as you will not be in any hurry to pedal out and then pedal in... life jackets are provided before the journey - very important for us, as none of us were swimmers
you will face difficulty in parking your car, there are few options... road side - if space is available, inside the boat house parking - if available, a pay and park just after the boat house (we used this) - was very convenient.
its a must visit, and an enjoyable 2-3 hours for the family. they do have eateries nearby - okish!
you can plan for

The lake is beautiful and boating is fun.
Getting to either is one circle of Dante’s Hell -
Thats all
- the rest of the place is a circus - carnival- mela going on - loud music - horse riding-7D cinema and a row of street vendors - insane crowds
Covid protocol be damned - the boating fellows are rude and well uncouth trying to rip ppl off by saying they were ten mins or more late - despite electronic timers- best not to argue n just leave - do not pay them any extra amt - go to refund counter n get ur deposit refund
Sanitization of jackets or such is done in your dreams - n if you are worried abt such best not to go - most boat ticket counters hv long queues 15-20 mins and same amt of wait time for the boats.
I would no longer count it in top 5 things to do

Nice serene place and very well organized boat trips, there are 3 types, paddle, row or motorized, the lake and surroundings are clean, plus don't miss the thread gallery just opposite the lake, you will be surprised. Go a little early after breakfast, you can beat the crowds.

Since our last visit twenty five years ago, the surroundings have improved remarkably with dedicated parking space, entry and exit clearly demarcated and the lake activities more organised, boating the most sought after. Food stalls are in plenty as are shops selling souvenirs, clothes, toys and local products. A must visit.

Honestly speaking I loved Ooty in may end during the monsoon. The greenery and beauty in the crisp Fresh air is unmatched. Heavenly flowers and emerald green every where. Although January is a nip in the air and the cold temperatures makes you long for more time here. A real hill station 👌

First day you cover Doddabetta and tea factory in the morning and in the afternoon you go to lake. Next day first half you spend in Botanical garden.
You may Skip rose garden as this attraction is somewhat covered by Botanical garden.
The peak of attraction (Not to be missed) is Toy train, which is there in your itinerary there. No worries and have a wonderful trip ahead

Excellent weather right now. I would prefer to do in a relaxed manner. Definitely ensure you take up the toy train. It's an experience in itself.
Depending on your interests you can do various points but I would definitely skip Ooty lake, it's overcrowded, stinking and freakingly expensive.

How's the weather in ooty now a days? Raining? worth going?
Abhinav

The weather is rainy at least for the next 1 week. However, it doesn't rain all day. So it will still be pleasant. I recently for a 3 day visit to Ooty and while it rained all 3 days, it still was great. You want th clouds to be there and that cover up the mountains and make the view even better. There was sunshine here and there in between but it was still worth it.
