Vembanad lake is the longest lake (45 Kms) in India, spanning several districts of Kerala. The Nehru Trophy Boat Race is conducted in this lake. High levels of pollution at certain hotspots of the Vembanad backwaters reduces its beauty.

Vembanad lake covers 3 districts of ernakulam, Allepy and kottayam. It is home to migratory birds. One must take the backwater rides if your are in kumarakom facing the vembanad lake to near by canals and places which r connected to vembanad lake.
