This area is very interesting, with several different types of Rock formations. It can be hard to locate, even though it is just off the highway in Abiquiu. GPS coordinates are 36.26819 and -106.48976. Turn into the driveway with the Dar Al Islam sign and...More

We have been here twice, most recently with friends. We followed the canyon back scaling the narrow walls and helping each other reach the next level. Also found the upper level path which offers a completely different, but incredible view of Plaza Blanca.

First of all, be aware of flash floods!! Keep an eye to the sky and even if it does not rain here, it may rain "upstream". This may be deadly. Consult weather before entering canyon and then...go for it! Super cool and narrow and twisty...More

This is a beautiful, other-worldly natural formation. You can see why it inspired Georgia O'Keefe in her paintings. It is easily accessible for most people...I am not in the best shape with bad knees but the trail is mostly flat and very easy to navigate....More

When visiting northern New Mexico don't miss this spot. Nice for walking. It's also near the Georgia O´Keeffe Home and Studio.

Don't miss Plaza Blanca if you have the opportunity to visit Abiquiu. It's free and very easily accessed. It's a few miles off the main highway on County Road 0155, but it feels like you're on another planet. The road does become dirt for a...More

We found this hike by looking for slot canyons to hike in this area. This hike did have a very short slot canyon section, but we found the interesting formations and the white cliffs made this area an unexpected gem of a hike. We hiked...More

This is the best kept secret in the area. So beautiful, so remote feeling and so inspirational. It feels like you are miles from civilization and there are tons of areas to explore. Amazing!

Sure. It's an open space and the car park is not gated. There is a mosque nearby and that requires an appointment, I think. But you can wander around and explore the area.
