If you're in Abiquiu or wanting to explore more parts of New Mexico, come check out Plaza Blanca. It's a lovely site with easy hiking and vast desert. PB is accessible from Hwy 84. Once you turn off this hwy, it does become a dirt road and the drive to the site is about 20 minutes. We drove on a... More

The "White Place" is a lovely natural setting. It's ideal for a short walk and hike. You can retrace Georgia O'Keefe's steps. One of her paintings depicting the White Place can be found in the Chicago Institute of Art.

Go when its dry as the road may wash out. At one point the road becomes unpaved, but it's not too bad. The signs are clear, parking is ample and free, and the place itself is worth the visit. Georgia O'Keefe painted these whit stone formations, and you can see the appeal of fantastic shapes and deep shadows. You can... More

This area is amazingly beautiful. You can kind of see it from the road, but a 15 minute hike in puts you up close and personal. This place was a continuing inspiration for Georgia O'Keeffe.

This area was made famous through paintings of Georgia O'Keeffe and it was wonderful to be able to see the inspiration for those paintings in person. This hike was recommended to us from our Ghost Ranch tour guides and though it is off the beaten path, the otherworldly views and solitude are well worth the trip. Plaza Blanca is a... More

We drove all the way up to the area and it was absolutely worth it but we never saw the "white place." The drive is mostly dirt roads and rocky terrain so I wouldn't attempt it in a small car. Our Subaru Outback was just fine. When we got to the top we saw a gate. I wish we had... More

We stopped here on our way back from Ghost Ranch. It is off the beaten path a bit but totally worth it. It's a very short "hike" to the rocks, it would be fine for young children or older ones (not in a wheelchair though). The white rocks are gorgeous. The kids originally whined about coming here, but once we... More

We have a 4WD truck and it had zero trouble with the dirt roads in this region. If you have an itty bitty with low ground clearance, take it slow and don't go up any roads you're not sure you can't get back down. The formations in here are amazing and there's lots of rocks to climb around on. Great... More
