Amazing time spent at Dive Timor. Stayed here for four nights - super clean and great value for money. Spent a day diving... literally walk from the shore to a spectacular reef. Two brilliant dives. Dive Timor is an excellent business. We will be back. Thanks Marianne and all the team!

Many thanks to the Dive Timor Lorosae team, especially my instructor Selina for their care so that I could do my first dive. I had no prior expectations, but what I saw will remain forever in my mind. Anyone visiting Timor should try this - to dive to discover the beauties of the underwater world.

Big room and big bed! Perfect place to rest after a long road trip!
The restaurant upstair provide good decent meal but a little bit pricey for us. However, they do have live music performance at night.
There's small dive shop where you could buy last minutes essential dive equipment.

I stayed for five nights in a Studio Unit and participated in a Freedive Course with Giovanni. My stay was very comfortable, the Studios have plenty of space, are reasonably priced, clean, safe and very relaxing with cooking facilities available in the room. Thank you for the fresh water that was available in my room. Great location for many places to eat and drink, within walking distance. My instructor Giovanni was a wonderful and patient teacher. Very knowledgeable, with safety being a priority. I really enjoyed my stay at Dive Timor Lorosae and will be back again in the future.

I went to dive, and it was good. Be warned that most dives are shore dives, so booties (& open-heeled fins) are necessary. Some of those beaches were so rocky that I needed help getting in & out. Nonetheless, the diving was pretty good.
The Dive Timor Lorosae resort itself was also pretty good. Not 5-Star, but I knew that. My single room didn't have an ensuite, but the shared facilities were pretty good (clean & well-maintained). And the restaurant was quite good, with a good selection of good food & good service.
East Timor really is a new country, still getting organised. One thing; East Timor is the only Asian country that uses US dollars for their currency, useful for US visitors.
I stayed at Dive Timor Lorosae for a week and had a good time.

I did both a snorkelling trip and my whole PADI open-water certification with Dive Timor Lorasae. The whole team was incredible: it was easy to get things booked, get gear fitted and work out a schedule that suited me. Giovanni is a marine biologist who led our snorkel trip, he was so kind and was able to answer all (literally so many!) of our questions with ease, plus point out interesting creatures and facts about life on the reef. Selina was my sucuba instructor for the pool session and my 4 open water dives, in different beautiful locations. She was an incredible instructor, patient, easy to understand, knowledgeable, and so kind. She made scuba diving feel safe and fun, and helped make it be an altogether unforgettable experience. East Timor has some amazing reefs and beaches - pristine, with some of the most biodiversity waters in the world - and most times we were the only divers there. Delicious lunch (they even made me a vegan option) was served on the days when we went to two different beautiful locations (a couple of hours drive away from Dili) with their van! So happy I got my certificate here, and thank you so much to Selina and the rest of the team for making it possible and such a great experience!

I choose to snorkel with Dive Timor. Giovanni was an intelligent, interesting guide and with his assistant Yanti gave me an enjoyable experience. I returned the following day. This time we snorkelled below Christo Rei. It was more challenging due to waves but the two of them made sure I was doing all right. There were more fish here. This is not the richest coral reef I have seen but it was a wonderful way to spend a morning in Dili. Well done Giovanni and Yanti and the driver.

Great little resort! The made it easy to arrive by sending the dive van to the airport. The friendly drivers helped me get a sim card near Timor Plaza (best price). Then the divers invited me to the Christmas potluck. What a great intro to East Timor!!
East Timor is way safer than lots of US cities. If you are hesitant to go because of the warnings, don't be. Show up here, get advice from the locals and get to explore off the beaten path ❤️

We had an amazing experience with Dive Timor. Staff, especially Selina and Giovanni were super friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.
I did not plan this trip well and went into Timor Dive on the off chance that my daughters might be able to complete their Open Water ticket. Selina went over and above to ensure all the assessments were completed to a satisfactory level including taking the girls for their final dive on her day off.
My daughters absolutely loved her and found it easy to follow her teachings and instructions.
I went out to watch on the final day, which was quite rough and was so impressed with the way in which she cared for the girls and ensured they were safe, even as she was getting pummeled by waves.
Highly recommend and cannot thank Selina enough for how she treated my daughters (12years and 14 years).

Hi, are there any wrecks that can be dived? We are Advanced Open Water divers.

No, there are not any wreck dives. But the dive sites are plentiful up both the East Coast and West Coast from Dilli on the mainland and across at Atauro Island, about a 1.5 hours boat ride from Dili. The reef is very healthy. We did about 16 dives during our week in Timor, a majority of which were around the 20 metre mark with a couple of dives to a depth of 30+ metres. We found the East Coast best with opportunity to do wall dives.

Hi,
I would like to know the best time to do the scuba diving course. When is crocodile mating season and is it at all likely to encounter one when diving?

Hi Naomi.
Thanks for your question and your interest to come and dive in Timor.
As Rob and David above said, we dive all year around and even in the rainy season visibility can be surprisingly good at exception of a few local dive sites that are very close to the river mouth and for that are more affected by the rain off. . So far the best time to come is when you can come the longest as there are plenty dive sites to explore!
For the crocodiles point, apart from mentioning that we dont dive in the mangroves or estuaries, DTL is been diving timor since 2000 and this 16 years we have never seen a crocodile in any of our dive sites! We are talking about thousends of dives and not a single sighting. If your idea is to see crocs, then you will have much better chances if you plan a trip to the south coast of Timor.
Hi guys, I'm planning to visit timor leste. I really want to to try scuba diving since it practically doesnt exist where i'm from so i was wondering if someone like me who has no prior experience will be okay to dive with you guys?

Hello Harish A.
Thanks for your message.
The PADI Open Water Diver course usually takes 3-4 days and can be at flexible times and days that fit your schedule. The course consists of some self study that involves watching some videos and answering some questions from the manual teaching you all the basics you need to know to dive. Then there is a session in the pool, in which you learn about the equipment and practice all the in water skills. This is followed by 4 dives with your instructor, repeating some of the skills you have learned and gaining experience diving.
PADI eLearning is a way to complete the theory side of the course online before you arrive shortening the course by a day or more and allowing you to start the in water portion straight away. To sign up and ensure you see Dive Timor Lorosae details in the bottom left corner.
You will need to make sure that you are in reasonably good health to safely scuba dive.
If you are interested in trying out diving before committing to a full course or just would like to experience it once, then Discover Scuba Diving is a great option. It involves learning the very basics from an instructor to safely dive, first practicing these basics in our swimming pool and then heading out for one dive with an instructor to one of our local dive sites.
Let us know if you need any further help on your trip!
All the best from all the DTL Team!
Cheers.

Is the diving boat diving or off the beach?
Either works for us if the diving is very good.

Both are great here. There are beach dives near to Dili and boat diving is great also.
