The donations of these statues to revitalize downtown and improve the city looks to be a success. You will see both sides of the city's population and conditions.

Crowded outdoor shopping area decorated with 20+ interesting Botero sculptures. Great inexpensive food and juices. Wonderful to see public display of art like this. Use normal care with your belongings as a gringo in crowded public place--no hassle at all.

The Botero's collection: Excellent. Location: Less so. A great collection of some 10-15 excellent bronzes, however in a slightly risky part of Downtown Medellin so be prepared to be hassled whilst there by street sellers and beggars alike. Other than the Botero's the square is lined by some buildings with interesting stories and meanings so I would highly advise taking... More

This place was lovely to see, the sculptures are very good (Botero is talented in my view) but the only downside is the people around, a lot of homeless people asking for money or trying to sell you things so just be careful of your things. Sad really that the art work isn't being appreciated much but that's just how... More

For the cost of getting here, you can absorb a number of impressive Botero statues scattered throughout the plaza. Well worth a visit! Just take precaution for pick pockets and petty thieves.

I have never seen such an amazing collection of fat people (and fat animals, too). Botero's people are a joy. Great photos.

This is a stop on the Real City Walking Tour (definitely take). Nice statues from a Colombia sculpture. Having the guide made it more interesting since you got the background and stories behind it.

Plaza Botero is a must visit, not because of the art but to get a more accurate and interesting view of Medellin and it's people. I went with the free tour and that added the context that makes this plaza interesting.

I somehow imagined Plaza Botero as an idyllic place in Medellin.... it is very interesting but not idyllic. Art mixes with the hustle and bustle of a market sector of this beautiful city. Outside Botero's art pieces stand side by side with street vendors, promiscuous ladies standing by street corners and regular passers by who clearly belong to a multitude... More

This Plaza was different than what I expected it to be. We walked here from el Poblado area, two girls alone. The entire walk was very pleasant, and we never felt unsafe as two females walking alone. Some areas near the plaza seem a little rough , we had one local stop us and advise us to put our cameras... More
