A visit to San Felipe is a must for any first-time visitor to Cartagena. In fact, I have been to Cartagena a dozen times now and have visited San Felipe almost every time. I always see it in a different way. Touring Sam Felipe gives you a true sense of the history of the city and the battle of the... More

We walked in mid summer, July 2015, and even though it was scorching hot the view was worth it. I would recommend good shoes ( we went barefoot, haha ) and water with you. There are also vendors alongside the route with beautiful nicknacks for purchase. It did cost money to go inside.. about 15Euro.

Be prepared specially in a sunny day, the climb is a little steep but the view of the city from the top is beautiful. Good place to spend some free time.

This was a very interesting place to visit. The audio tour was excellent and easy to use. The architects very much understood military defense. The tunnels were fun to walk in. Overall very impressive.

Well fortified. Cool castle. We didn't get to learn much of the history of the castle due to our lack of time but it is still great to check out. It's about a 10 to 15 minute walk from Getsmani. We realized this after taking the city tour to see it. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THE CITY TOUR. Unless you... More

we all learned so much during our visit about Colombian and Caribbean history; well kept fortress also offers great views of the surroundings and a pleasant breeze.

Went there prior to start of our tour. Did not bother about a guide as we had a bit of a read about the castle on the internet prior. Had a good view of Cartagena from the top. Best to go early or late afternoon to avoid the midday heat.

A must-do while you're in Cartagena, but prepare yourself - it's going to be hoooot with barely any shade. For what it's worth (and this isn't a complaint, only an observation for readers, as I'm not one of those who travels the world and expects everyone to speak English - quite the opposite), barely any educational signs in English. There... More

We visited the old Spanish Fort or Castilo de San Felipe de Barajas as part of a city tour out of our hotel. The Fort is enormous and very interesting with great views of the city. A must see for history and military buffs. Great photo op site. Highly recommended!
