Not really much to say, it’s a wall with 9 dragons ceramic on it. The wall is not original, the dragons appear to be. It’s free admission, in a nice little park, there are washrooms and a little gift shop. The Shanhua Monastery down the road has an almost identical wall with 5 dragons on it.

Go have a look, get some photos and then 10 minutes later go see something else.

I feel you can find this place almost in every place. You can stay or only to have quick 15 minutes visit. This time was free of charge. Walking distance inside city wall Datong.

Difficult to find the entrance and the wall is nice but not spectacular to my opinion. Its important to go there is afternoon otherwise the sun is blocking your view

Probably the best example of its kind in China

This gorgeous ceremonial wall once fronted the palace (destroyed but now being reconstructed). It is a beautiful and symbolic part of the city's history. Great photo op.

Interesting site where it is possible to see a wall on which there a nine dragons made with coloured tiles. It is worth looking at it when having a stroll through the city.

The screen was cool to see, but we only spent a few minutes there. It was just a concrete plaza area with this enormous screen.

Am afternoon visit is better

Not very well preserved but I read it had been displaced. Biggest of the genre. I was hesitant to go see yet another dragon wall but it was worth it. Doesn't take long, unless you are blond or have Western looking kids, then people will find more interest in you than the wall!
We came in the morning and the sun was behind the wall, hence my recommendation to come in the afternoon.

We saw many screen on our China trip but this was the largest and I would venture to say the nicest with beautiful tile. Not worth a trip unless you are already in Datong. Then by all means definitely stop by for 30 minutes.

9 Dragon Screen
Oct 2018 • Couples
The 9 Dragon Screen is well worth the visit. It is a beautiful piece of work and one of the best sights we saw in the whole of China! The quality of the ceramic screen is unbelievable and it is a treasure that Datong is extremely proud of.

Across the road from this screen was once the Datong Palace. It is since burnt down, however, they were in the process of rebuilding this. It will be in the style of the Forbidden City and will look very much like it.

The story of the wall was that it was to protect the Palace against evil spirits and would have been visible from the front of the Palace.

Go and see this for certain if you go to Datong and you will see for yourself just how beautiful this really is, with all the vibrant colours and the clearness of the dragons. It is also the one of three 9 Dragon screen in the whole of World!
