Major park landscaping and expansive, beautiful entrance from parking and admissions to the site. Massive Buddhist sculptures, some in "caves" with beautiful painted carvings. I've returned multiple times, and each visit there is improvement as they are continually restoring.

Not as large as Longman Grotto but still a stunning piece of engineering works with hundreds of caves holding priceless Buddhist statues and carvings.

The most impressive scultpure of the Yungang Grottoe. Easily accessible from Datong (1 hour drive), a nice leisurely walk takes you along the many grottoes. A must when in the area.

This was beyond our expectations when we visited. There are numerous caves with impressive artwork inside, buddhas, carvings, paintings. There are also enormous Buddhas inside the caves. I can recommend to visit this precious piece of history if you're in the area.

Getting there is a big chore but fortunately it is rewarding. The beginning of the walk through the grottos is a tourist trap full of souvenir stands, but I guess that is to be expected. Once you get past that the site is rather inspirational....More

In Trip Advisor there are two different places worth see - Yungang and Wugantun Grotto - but it's the same! Nevertheless it's breath taking place.

This was what I came to China for! The site is about an hour away from Datong by tour bus. There must be a million Buddhique sculptures in this one site alone.
