Construction on this Dam started in 1996 and it opened in 2009. This is the world's largest Hydro-electric dam and the Yangtze the world's 3rd longest river. The things to look out for: 1. The 5 ship locks that bring a ship downstream 22m each time (total about 116m) down from Yichang to Chongqing and reverse if you going the... More

This is the most beautiful part of a Yangtze River cruise. All of the twists and turns in the gorges that the boat has to maneuver through produce ever changing views of incredible mountain scenery. We sat out in deck to fully absorb the views, as it doesn't take very long to get through it all.

In early March we took a Three Gorges Yangtze cruise. There were a few excursions to choose from. We visited Sanxia Family Scenic Resort (290Yuan). The Three Gorges is the world’s largest hydropower dam. One day we took a small boat to explore Goddess Creek. The other day we went on shore to explore the "Precious Stone Fortress". We also... More so than the three gorges dam, the actually gorge is gorgeous and definitely worth a trip to go see. If you could hire a boat and go independently it would be fantastic.

Sailing through Three Gorges was an experience in history and beauty. We loved it! We enjoyed a clear day and a day with clouds and mist. Both were delightful.

We visited on a Viking Cruise and they had many activities in the area while we journeyed down the river: sampan ride, dam visit, locks. It was a wonderful area but be aware it is very hazy on a calm day.

Thoroughly enjoyed our journey through the Three Gorges. Weather was somewhat hazy although it did not rain....just not possible to take clear photographs all the time. You need to do it.

One of the best trips ever. I cruised the Yangtze River on a cruise in October and took the excursion to the Three Gorges walk and show. So glad I did as the day was fantastic. So much to see and photograph.

Over one million people had to be relocated as a result of the flooding by the dam . Empty houses and towns could be seen along the river. The people we talked to seemed happy for the most part, with their relocation and felt the new homes are much better than the old.

This is a must for every travelor to China with enough time to take a river steamer trip on the Yangtze River. It is an awe inspiring sight, no matter what time of day or year, or even weather conditions. The view changes minute by minute as the staemer approaches from either up or down straem and as the sun... More
