The buildings designs are very typical of Southeast Asia such as old Singapore and Hong Kong in the 1940s. There are many eateries offering traditional Hainan cuisine and street food. Going through the area is like going back to Haikou of 1940s.

I suppose this was the starting point of the old street, but couldn't see the rest. Maybe I missed a secret path/entrance, or the old street has been torn down. Anyways this place is a food court, with several restaurants around. It has a stage...More

Having lived in China for 20 years I have seen many of the old things disappear. This movie set is from the 30s and 40s in China and much looks like Shanghai did when I first arrived. Great place to take photos.

Should visit. Foods sold here are oily, which is their style of cooking. Bargaining is permitted when shopping. When taking a taxi, be sure the meter is turned on.

A nice street to walk along and absorb some of Haikou's past. It's nice that it is pedestrianized so you don't often have to worry about cars while you are busy staring upwards! A lot of it was being renovated at the time we went....More

It's a nice place to take a walk and shop for snacks and souvenirs to take home, maybe to take a few pictures... but that's it. After a few hundred meters you'll start to realize everything looks the same. There are some really nice restaurants...More
