Escape from Shenzhen by sea...just in time!
Feb 2020 • Solo
Trapped in Shenzhen, all flights to just about anywhere in the world outside of China cancelled due to the widening grip of ‘Coronacracy’, so decide to journey to Hong Kong to catch a plane to Sydney. First option, the train to Kowloon, ruled out on route for fear of being quarantined in Xianggang for 14 days. Redirect the taxi to Shekou Port, ferry from the terminal to HK Airport. Good choice, hourly ferries ¥280 one way. Forewarned about HK heavy extra-security measures (HK Dept of Health texted me while I was on the boat) but the HK port customs authorities at Shekou only got me to fill in the standard customs form (2 separate forms actually!) and submitted me to the routine temperature check and then waved me through. Relax once on board, take in the hilly views of the New Territories on the half-hour trip. Disembarking at HK Airport, the process to get through this end was pretty seamless and straightforward (plus a bonus tax refund). Lucky to go when when I did, two days later the HK govt closed the Shekou terminal due to the incidence of the virus discovered.

Shekou Ferry Terminal to go to Zhuhai
Jan 2020
If you are rushing, you will find that this place cannot handle crowds very well. The eateries are horrendous slow, and if you are not using a mobile app to place your order (i.e., queuing up to order by the cashier), you will realise that your order will be quickly placed at the end!
Overall, a bit of a harrowing experience!

Shekou ferry to Hong Kong airport for checkin only
Nov 2019
It is not possible to use the ferry for transit to Hong Kong airport unless you are actually flying out of Hong Kong and checking your bags on a connecting flight.
Even though my guide purchased me a ticket online, they would not accept it and provided no refund. I then had to Taxi 1 hr drive to Futian border crossing and walk across. Then taxi to HK central.
There is only a narrow window of checking in your bags too. My flight out of HK was the next day and they still wouldn’t transport me.
Use Futian border crossing not ferry from Shekou!

Nice place to spend an evening
Aug 2019
This place has many international restaurants and is a very lively place to spend an evening. One can select many ethnic foods. Fountain show is not bad, too.

Expat living quarters
Oct 2019
This area of Shenzhen is perfect for expats living abroad. With seaworld right down the road and foreign restaurants surrounding, it's a great place to live or visit.

Ferry from Shenzhen to Macau
Nov 2018 • Couples
Purchased return ticket from Shenzhen (RMB210/pax) to Macau (RMB250/pax).

Don't forget to fill up the departure card for imigration (it's available on the right side).

The ferry terminal is huge and clean. Collected our ticket from the ticketing machine.
Waiting hall is filled with people but during boarding the queue goes very fast.

If you have hand/big luggage, you will be asked to put it at the back before you take a seat. Sit according to your sit number, we didnt notice a seat number on the ticket until someone told us that we are sitting on theirs. I find the seat slightly more comfortable than in aeroplane, or maybe because im short ;)

Water is offered during the ride. There's free wifi onboard, and also vending/snack machine (not free).

Ride was smooth except towards almost the end it was slightly bumpy (same feeling on a plane when having turbulence). Who knew you can have that feeling on land too. Ride was about 1hr+.

When you exit the terminal follow the sign towards the area for bus shuttles. You will pass by a lot of signage with different hotel names stating shuttle to that hotel.
You need to check if your hotel offers free shuttle bus, if yes check the schedule.
We are staying with Royal Hotel and they offer free shuttle.

When we were waiting for our bus we saw plenty of bus from Grand Lisboa, so if you don't want to wait long i suggest you stay at Grand Lisboa. We are staying with The Royal, it's one of the slightly more affordable hotel and still comfortable.

From Macau to Shenzhen, we printed our ticket at Turbojet counter. Upon check in they stick our seat number on the ticket. Same thing ride about 1hr+ slightly bumpy at the end. Overall ride is good but i think maybe slightly pricey for me (920rmb total for 2 pax).

Shenzen to Hongkong best option
Nov 2018 • Business
The best, fastes and inexpensive way to reach Hongkong airport from Shenzen is by a ferry from Shekou Ferry terminal.
There is a ferry every hour and the boat takes 30 minutes.
Its ideal if u have a large suitcase, u an check it in at the terminal and collect it at your final destination.
The terminal is large and very easy to navigate with boards in English too.
You can check in anytime irrespective of flight timings. First buy a ferry ticket costing RMB270 and then check it to your flight counter.
After reaching HK you can claim refund if your tax and board a monorail to the main airport.
Hk has ome of the best airport check in facilities in the world.
Train or taxi from shenzen will take 2 to 3 hours to reach the airport. So ferry is the best option.

Beautiful exhibition
Oct 2018 • Solo
We visited Shekou as part of a day trip to China from Hong Kong. A lot of foreigners seem to live here and there’s a catamaran service to Hong Kong (takes around 60 minutes)

Shekou has a beautiful exhibition hall where you can see the terracotta warriors from Xian and buy lots of cool souvenirs. The exhibition is a must if you’re in the area.
