We drove up from Codpa valley to Putre which is manageable in a rental car, however takes around six hours with many fotostops as there are pittoresque pueblos, geoglyphs and so much nature in blossom, including cactaceae. The deep valleys and steep heights and altiplanos offer great panorami. At Putre we stayed at the comfy Kukuli Hotel which has parking... More

This was one of the most amazing places I have been. The views are just hard to describe and the rows and rows of mountains with the snow one after another. One of the main attractions in the park is the small lacustrine area formed by Chungara and Contacotani lakes, which lies at the foothills of the Payachata volcanic group.... More

This place is amazing; I want to visit again when I have more time in the area. I was hoping for a glimpse of a vicuna and was pleasantly surprised to see groups of them. There were also alpacas grazing pretty much everywhere. I think everyone in our party had a bad headache at the end of the day. I... More

If you are into outdoors and desert/pampa scenery, this is a great park to visit and study. Good for families with 8yr+ ages.

One of the most beautiful places I had ever seen! Plan the whole day for this trip. The road is very beautiful but very difficult. Not too many places to get food or water, so be prepared

I'm so glad I got a chance to see this one of a kind landscape! Top of the line sunscreen, sunglasses, a great hat - the wider brimmed the better and be ready to practice your sloth pace - lots of water, and I was glad to have brought a water and saline nasal spray afterwards. A lifetime memory...and bring... More

The PN Lauca is sensationally beautiful at every level...wonderful scenery, wonderful volcanoes, wonderful desert, wonderful animals. Flamingos, vizcachas, vicuña, alpacas, llamas and guanacos at every turn. The roads are fairly dangerous though, falling off the sides of mountains as they are, with the relatively fresh memory of a coach of school girls going over the side with ten resultant deaths.... we travelled with a driver and guide through this area - it was spectacular and well worth all the time, money and altitude sickness!

It is a beautiful place however the weather plays a big part especially for photograhs. On a blue sunny day [rare ] the scenery just jumps out at you. Not so good when cloudy though...the colors are more dead. Please note....the famous church in Parinacota village is closed and no viewing allowed due to the untimely death of the church... More

I recently returned to Parque Nacional Lauca after first visiting in the mid-1990's. Sadly, this mountain wilderness has lost much of its remote, unspoilt quality over the last 20 years. The tar road through the park now seems to be a significant import / export route for land-locked Bolivia. Large numbers of heavy vehicles use the road, queuing for several... More
