Pack a bottle of water and head out to the little known dunes south of Sleeping Bear...what a great hike! It is not difficult, but you will get a workout and see Lake Michigan and the dunes from a whole new perspective. Easy access and well marked trails from the trail heads.

No question this a beautiful spot, but the stairs are a booger if you have knee trouble. Go on up the road and get the same vistas, much easier. There was a public restroom with water, which is great!

This is a simple hike that takes you through the woods and to a stair case to the dunes. For those that enjoy a stunning vista high above the lakeshore without having to do too much climbing, this is the perfect hike. It is never overcrowded with people, so it is a nice place to just sit and enjoy the... More

We did this hike to the dunes and about 1.5 miles past and loved it! We had three adults, and three kids (18, 13, 8). The view was beautiful and the walk was challenging but not too hard. There were a lot of ups and downs and we were very thankful for the shade of the trees as it was... More

On our way home from the Sleeping Bear Dunes area we stopped here to hike the Baldy trail ( about 1 mi. Each way) that takes you to the top of Mt. Baldy dune. The view is breathtaking! 450 feet above the Lake Michigan shore and to the north is the Sleeping Bear shoreline. What a vista!

We have climbed Old Baldy, then known to us as The Blowout, for 75 years. It has always been worth it. As we have grown older, climbing up into the blowout itself has become more challenging. However, the GT Regional Land Conservancy has not only improved beautiful trails through the woods which terminate at Old Baldy, but has placed rudimentary... More

We decided to go to Pete's Woods Trail last week. The trail is quite over grown and almost difficult to find at times. If more people walked on it, it might be better. It is a fairly easy hike but definitely not handicap accessible or small child friendly. If you go in the summer, take bug spray!

Great hiking on the dunes and along the shores of lake michigan. You'll be in the woods for part of the hike, then down to the dunes and the lakeshore.

My husband and I started off on the dry hill trail and quickly discovered that to see the dunes, the baldy trail is necessary. Once at the top, we were memorized by the picaresque views. We started to descend to the beach, but quickly surmised that the return trip - climbing up a wall of sand - would be exhausting.... More
