Described as both a ‘Vertical City’ and ‘A Living Wonder,’ Burj Khalifa, developed by Dubai-based Emaar Properties PJSC, is the world’s tallest building.

Rising gracefully from the desert, Burj Khalifa honours the city with its extraordinary union of art, engineering and meticulous craftsmanship.

At 828 metres (2,716.5 ft), the 200 plus storey Burj Khalifa has 160 habitable levels, the most of any building in the world. The tower was inaugurated on January 4, 2010, and is responsible for a number of world-firsts. The tower became the world’s tallest man-made structure just 1,325 days after excavation work started in January 2004.

Burj Khalifa utilised a record-breaking 330,000 cubic metres of concrete; 39,000 tonnes of steel reinforcement; 103,000 square metres of glass; and 15,500 square metres of embossed stainless steel. The tower took 22 million man hours to build.

Loved the little lights and the musical fountains were amazingly breathtaking. They start at 6.30 and come in every half hour so make sure you go and get the perfect spot to see the show.

Going on top of the tallest building is an experience in itself. Of course the views are great - whether you go in the day or at night. Also nice is the introduction they give in the beginning. We did not find much value in buying their official photo of the trip - these are photo shopped showing people in... More

Tried to get tickets 2 days before arrival, very booked up except for most expensive times. Glad we didn't go up as we saw the crowds milling around waiting to get in, noisy and chaotic, and the view would have been very hazy with poor visibility. We viewed from outside, took photos from the viewing platform.

Me and my family booked for a 7:00 PM visit. Queue was a bit long but once you are up there with the amazing night view of the city you forget everything about the queue. This is my second visit first was during daytime. Highly suggested to experience to both times.

While the views are amazing, the real splendor is understanding how it was constructed. Take the time to read the information, you will be wowed. Get tickets in advance. I recommend early Friday mornings for the smallest crowd.

While one should visit because it is the tallest building in the world, the view was not worth $138. Note that even with the "at the top" access, you really only go up about 1/2 way. The view from the 148 floor was not really any better than the 126th of the regular ticket. Quite swanky, though :). I might... More

We ordered tickets for the highest level 148 stocks where there is a open terras to look around and the sights is magnificat. It is as if you are in a plain. All seems so little. You can't imagine that it is a building. It is expensive but it's worth doing

The story of the design and construction of this tower is a triumph of technology, skill and co-operation. The reality of going there as a visitor is a bit underwhelming though. It is very expensive (£60 plus) but it is in Dubai! On checking in I was told of a long wait to go up the tower and offered the... More

Staying in Downtown Dubai

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown Dubai
You can’t fail to miss Dubai’s iconic Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building. It towers over the city and resides in the prestigious Downtown development. Once an old army base, Downtown is now the jewel in Dubai’s crown, a beautiful residential and leisure area housing not only the world’s tallest building, but the world’s largest fountains and mall. Wide marble sidewalks are perfect for strolling, with restaurants, art galleries and children’s play areas. Specially commissioned sculptures line the roads and Downtown is often used as a canvas for modern art displays and community events such as Classic Car Shows and National Day parades. In the cooler months, cross one of the many bridges to the Burj Khalifa park and enjoy a picnic alongside residents and visitors, or enjoy a lunch or dinner watch the dancing fountains. Because of its mixed use, Downtown is a fantastic place to mix with Dubai residents and locals and watch real life unfold in a cosmopolitan environment.
