Described as both a ‘Vertical City’ and ‘A Living Wonder,’ Burj Khalifa, developed by Dubai-based Emaar Properties PJSC, is the world’s tallest building.

Rising gracefully from the desert, Burj Khalifa honours the city with its extraordinary union of art, engineering and meticulous craftsmanship.

At 828 metres (2,716.5 ft), the 200 plus storey Burj Khalifa has 160 habitable levels, the most of any building in the world. The tower was inaugurated on January 4, 2010, and is responsible for a number of world-firsts. The tower became the world’s tallest man-made structure just 1,325 days after excavation work started in January 2004.

Burj Khalifa utilised a record-breaking 330,000 cubic metres of concrete; 39,000 tonnes of steel reinforcement; 103,000 square metres of glass; and 15,500 square metres of embossed stainless steel. The tower took 22 million man hours to build.

Took the "At the top" tour - floor 148 , paid the difference and it was a much calmer, un-rushed experience as a result. We (wife and two daughters in their 20's) were able to take our time, take the free refreshments and wander around the highest available public gallery, taking pictures unhindered by crowds of other people. You can... More

we also watched the New Year near Burj Khalifa - spectacular! It was very crowded on New Years Eve, but it was very pieceful. The nice thing about it is that the Opera House is close by.

A must see when in Dubai. We went to the 124th floor, which is not the highest (but more than high enough for someone scared of heights). We were there at noon, pretty much no lines, and we had not pre-booked. Also got free entrance to the James Bond museum which was nice.

Awestruck with the awesomeness of this place. Such a beautiful creation made by the man. Beautiful view from the 125th floor of the tower.

We went up to the top observation deck (too expensive for the experience in our opinion) and were very disappointing by the view - very hazy and difficult to see too far because of the sand in the air - we've heard it's often like this.

Having pre booked tickets in advance had not expected the lengthy queues we faced every step of the way. It took 2 hours to complete our visit, 20 mins for viewing and the rest of the time queuing. It was very busy the day we visited and very difficult to get a space to take photos from the viewing gallery.... More

Staying in Downtown Dubai

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown Dubai
You can’t fail to miss Dubai’s iconic Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building. It towers over the city and resides in the prestigious Downtown development. Once an old army base, Downtown is now the jewel in Dubai’s crown, a beautiful residential and leisure area housing not only the world’s tallest building, but the world’s largest fountains and mall. Wide marble sidewalks are perfect for strolling, with restaurants, art galleries and children’s play areas. Specially commissioned sculptures line the roads and Downtown is often used as a canvas for modern art displays and community events such as Classic Car Shows and National Day parades. In the cooler months, cross one of the many bridges to the Burj Khalifa park and enjoy a picnic alongside residents and visitors, or enjoy a lunch or dinner watch the dancing fountains. Because of its mixed use, Downtown is a fantastic place to mix with Dubai residents and locals and watch real life unfold in a cosmopolitan environment.
