About
Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo is one of the most captivating attractions in Dubai. Located at The Dubai Mall, the largest mall in the world, offering a memorable journey into ocean life. With capacity to hold 10 million litres of water, Dubai Aquarium is one of the largest indoor aquariums in the world and it illuminates the marvels of the ocean floor, showcasing one of the most diverse collections of aquatic life. Located just above the aquarium, Underwater Zoo brings visitors up close with penguins, piranhas, crabs, water rats, sea horses, jellyfish and plenty more. A fascinating new addition at Underwater Zoo is King Croc, regarded as nature's rare phenomenon and one of the world's largest reptiles - at over 5 meters long and weighing an imposing 750 kg plus. Underwater Zoo regularly hosts innovative exhibits. One such exhibit, 'UAE's Night Creatures' presents the experience of nightfall in the desert as creatures of the dark.

The area
Neighbourhood: Downtown Dubai
You can’t fail to miss Dubai’s iconic Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building. It towers over the city and resides in the prestigious Downtown development. Once an old army base, Downtown is now the jewel in Dubai’s crown, a beautiful residential and leisure area housing not only the world’s tallest building, but the world’s largest fountains and mall. Wide marble sidewalks are perfect for strolling, with restaurants, art galleries and children’s play areas. Specially commissioned sculptures line the roads and Downtown is often used as a canvas for modern art displays and community events such as Classic Car Shows and National Day parades. In the cooler months, cross one of the many bridges to the Burj Khalifa park and enjoy a picnic alongside residents and visitors, or enjoy a lunch or dinner watch the dancing fountains. Because of its mixed use, Downtown is a fantastic place to mix with Dubai residents and locals and watch real life unfold in a cosmopolitan environment.

You can usually get discounted tickets if you shop around using one of the popular tour apps (such as Viator or Tiqets). It's a very good aquarium...a highlight is standing face-to-face with some very menacing sharks separated just by the thickness of the aquarium glass.

The mermaid encounter really was the highlight of our holiday.

Thank you for creating such an amazing and beautiful experience….

So magical and such a special memory for us as a family. It actually made me a little emotional watching the mermaid show.

The team of ‘fairies’ provided outstanding service and made my daughter feel extra special.

Thank you for creating this wonderful and unique place… my daughter hasn’t stopped talking about it.

One small suggestion….. it would be great to include some info about mermaid encounter on the aquarium website as we didn’t know it existed when we were booking our tickets.

We didn’t really have time allocated to do it, so ended up missing our boat ride at the fountains in order to do the mermaid thing.

It’s a small price to pay… we left very happy and will definitely be back to be a mermaid soon.

Thank you again

Many people had recommended us this place however we felt that this was outdated and far from worth the expensive entrance.

The experiences itself were great and spectacular but the entry organisation was one of the worst experiences ever.

There were no signs about the queue and the situation at the ticket counters was chaotic. The security guard sent us to a queue behind a wall, where we stood for almost 1 hour and a half and with small child it was not a pleasant experience.

Nobody from the staff knew anything and keep sending us from one person to another with an unfriendly attitude.

When we asked why do we have to wait in line, since we bought the online tickets (which say that by buying in advance you skip the line), the response was that, since we bought online we HAVE to wait, because if we bought somewhere in Dubai Mall, we would be let in without waiting.

I'm really sad that the organisation was so bad, since it ruined the otherwise great experience. Hope they improve in this segment.

A nice experience and the underwater tunnel that you see in the photo is a great entry into the place. Interesting animal, and if you are able to go during feeding time, it's even more fun. We had a ticket that included going to the Penguin's cove which was great. The only thing is the photo they take of you and put in a nice frame is really expensive (even by Tourist standards!). But that's Dubai generally.... things seem to cost a lot more!

The make you take the full queue TWICE.
There is no pricing information written anywhere, so you have to stand in the queue to find out the price. Then, if you want to have a think or if you want to pay online (as it’s cheaper) they do NOT let you wait on the side and cut the queue once you are ready, they make you take the full queue again.
And the cashier lady explains it with a smirk - if you want to buy cheaper tickets online from a third party, she will not let you back in the queue out of principle. My answer to the management is simple - if you don’t want people to buy cheaper tickets from third parties - do not allow those third parties to sell, but don’t punish tourists for this.

I value my time and I am not going to wait in the queue twice because of some cashier lady principles. And therefore your aquarium is a 1 star attraction because I couldn’t even get in without encountering some overestimated self-worth from support staff.

Oh, and the security guard told me that if I want to know the pricing I should come to him to ask without waiting in the queue. Yea, sure, that's what people worldwide do - they seek out security guards to ask for pricing instead of checking a pricing board.

You spend way more time queuing even if you have pre-bought tickets than you do in the actual aquarium (which is just the tunnel)

The tank itself was great but the queues were horrific. I prepaid online, why stand in a queue for half an hour to get tickets. My son was over it before we even started which was a shame. Also to get from burj at the top to aquarium (directly) below involves a lot of faffing and queuing for mall lifts. Add another 20mins there. We rushed through what should have been a cool experience because we had to wait so long to do it. Not good
