Chateau Ksara, the country's oldest winery, founded in 1857 by Jesuit Fathers.

In August 1973, sold to a consortium of Lebanese businessmen

Chateau Ksara's motto is "Modernity in Tradition". It is an idea that captures perfectly our position as Lebanon's oldest winery and the pioneering spirit that has kept Chateau Ksara at the forefront of Lebanon's wine industry, for over 156 years.

Today's wine drinkers are both informed and discerning, and therefore we are committed to producing quality wines - varietals and blends made from our 25 local and international varieties - that will satisfy all palates and suit all occasions.

Not only are our wines made to the most exacting standards with state of the art equipment, they also reflect the terroir of the Lebanon's historic Bekaa Valley, an area that has been making wine for over 2,000 years. It is a legacy that we respect with every bottle we make.

Brand values

The name of Chateau Ksara has become associated with the three core values: tradition, nobility and modernity. These are emphasized through name and lineage (tradition); through a high-quality product (nobility) and the tremendous innovative advances made since 1991 (modernity).

I visited the Chateau Ksara end of April. It is a very nice building and the tour guide inside spoke Arabic, English and French. So no worries about communication. You get a tour through the winery and get to see all the barrells where the wine is stored and ripened. The history of the winery is very interesting and definitely... More

I enjoy wine but I know very little about it. But this quick tour offers more because of its unique history. The caves & their past were very cool to discover and walk through. Some reviewers have said that it's too short, but once you've seen a few of the caves there's not much more to see as some areas... More

I have to admit being biased to California wines. The tour started with a historic video, than a tour of the caves, finishing with a wine tasting. The wines were nice, but not to my liking. Of course wine is a personal taste, so my opinion is just that. It's a nice tour and seems to be part of all... More

This is a big business corporate winery and they run hundreds of people on tours through here every day. We were on a private tour and we spend about an hour hanging around watching the groups come through. There is a 10 min video and then a quick look at their cave system. This vineyard ships >3 million bottles/year to... More

I am biased. I live in California where we have good weather and excellent wine. But visiting Ksara winery, Lebanon's oldest, was a welcome experience. The extensive underground caves, now some 2 km long, were first discovered in Roman times. They were used and expanded during WWII. They are certainly unique and the temperature stay constant - near 12 degree... More

We spent an interesting hour at Ksara. They run a 10 minute video which gives a good overview of how they produce the wine and the history to Ksara. you then have a walk through the caves - again an interesting experience. We then did a free tasting of 3 different wines Unfortunately the day we went the restaurant was... More

The visit to the winery was restricted to a cave with some casks and bottles. Very little about the history of the place was said. And nothing about the wine production. Tasting included four wines.

Sandwiched between my trip to two archeological sites (Baalbek and Anjar) and the Shouf Cedar reserve, a stop at this winery was a welcome wrinkle in the seemingly endless variation of what Lebanon’s tourist industry has to offer. Chateau Ksara celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2007, and they are rightfully proud of their appellation as the country’s first wine-making operation.... More

Our tour included a stop at this winery and it was very brief... maybe in and out in under 45mins! The tour of the caves lasted about 10mins and then we sampled 3 wines. As the tour went on, we heard a lot about the history of the place, but nothing of the wine except it ages well in its... More

It is located in a beautiful building. Welcoming staff but sometimes very busy with many visitors. They offer a short but interesting tour inside the caves. Not any information about winemaking. It is a pitty. Also it is possible to taste and buy wines. In my opinion, tasting room is big too and very impersonal but it is big company... More

Dear Enric, thank you for your review and recommendation. Indeed, Chateau Ksara is the oldest winery in Lebanon. It is very busy especially during weekends. In case you visit us again, kindly ask the hostess that is escorting you to provide you with a long tour around the caves, we will be happy to. Cheers. More
