Must do

A short climb but the views and multiple temples make this a must do part of Luang Prabang. Very central.

Huffing and puffing we made it up the 437 steps (according to our guides count) to the top of "Mount" Phousi. At only about 150 meters tall it is not much of a "mount", but it has a wondeful view of Luang Prabang and the Mekong River - especially gorgeous at sunset. On the way up the steps are clusters... Get up there early to get a seat with the best view ...take a beer along too! Its about 300 steps up but its easy enough ...don't be put off by anyone saying its a long way. Plenty of places to rest if you need to.

We went right after the monk offerings, so the weather was not that bad, and we got to see the sunrise!

It is expensive to go all the way up. Unfortunately it is like that everywhere in LP. You see 5 temples as a couple and you've spent nearly 1000 baht (200000 kip)just on entrance fees. When you get to the top it is super crowded. And why is it everywhere you go there is always a lot of chinese tourists... More

The way up to the top is tiring enough, as you have to be fit, but what is really exhausting is all the elbowing when it comes to finding the perfect spot to click the sunset. If you just forget about that perfect photograph and learn to enjoy the place as you can it can be a very special experience.... More

Climb 329 steps... its not so bad. The views are amazing... especially sunrise/sunset. Very busy with tourists though so go early for good spot. Monks in temple at top will chat to you. Just beautiful

A real 360 view of Luang Prabang with the mighty Mekong River in sight. The track of 300+ steps uphill to get there is not for every one but is worth the effort to enjoy the view. The sunset view was a bonus to add to the charm of temple at top.

We ran up the steps for exercise and got there about 5.30pm for the sunset at 6:15. Beautiful view, worth the effort.

It's beautiful if you go at sunset, and worth the short climb! The tickets are quite cheap as well. Do this on your first day in LP to get a sense of the area!
