Both course instructors had poor english, little knowledge of how to educate with very little interaction throughout. No formal opening or closing of the course on their part, they lacked enthuasiam and passion and appeared to be going through the motions. Tamnak Lao mentions vegetarians/vegans are welcome to attend the class. This course gave a cursory nod to vegeterians subtracting... More

Booked the 2 hour evening slot for myself and husband. 4 dishes ar demonstrated by 2 chefs and you then choose 2 to cook yourself. Working in pairs and following the recipes in your cookbook hand out, you can create some very tasty dishes. This is followed by everyone sitting outside to eat your food. This was enjoyable as you... More

Location and setup of tamnak Lao are great. They support charities with the work they do as well which is nice. The day program starts off with a very fast visit to the market and then after demo you start cooking lunch. Eat it at about 1 then cook and eat early dinner - done by 4. And that's where... More

A highly recommended experience. Tried booking at the more well known tamarind school, but fully booked all week. Found this one by chance and no regrets at all. Run by a very friendly Australian woman but with authentic Lao cooks. Started with trip to large local market where all local produce was purchased and explained. Cooked two dishes for lunch... My husband and I took the day course and really enjoyed it. Interesting visit to the market where we saw the local ingredients, the demonstrations of each dish was well done and questions were answered. The cookbooks are well laid out with easy to follow instructions. The dishes were tasty and we got to eat banana flower! The special Lao... More

We really can recommend this cooking course. They fullfine everything which they promise in their brochure. You cook the dishes in a team of two people after one of the teacher show you how to cook these meal-and you not just cut vegetables and that's it. I also like that you can take the food as take a way and... More

You get to go to market and help select produce. Has highly interactive and hands on style tuition with demonstrations. At the end you receive a recipe booklet.

My husband and I -despite reading some of the less than rave reviews on trip advisor decided to book the all day cooking class with Tamnak (because at the end of the day we liked that we were inadvertently supporting their charity by doing so!) and we were both very happy with our experience! Both the instructors Leng & Phia... More

My husband and I went to the day cooking class at Tamnak Lao Restaurant. First we were taken to the central market and were able to see and learn about all of the delicacies in the market. We even bought some items there. Then we went back to the site of the school and 2 dishes were demonstrated before we... More

I read previous reviews and I think a lot of them are extremely unfair. Tamnak Lao offers two kinds of classes - full day class with the visit to the market and short evening class. Leaflets cannot be clearer what to expect of each and how many dishes you cook. It clearly says that evening class is for people who... More
