A lovely climb to the top taken slowly it's not too onerous. Lots to see along the way (though not views of the city until you get to the top). You will keep thinking that you have reached the top only to find hundreds more steps!!! Takes about 2 hours at a slow pace.

We went up to watch the sunset - and were surprised at the beauty of the temple on top of Mandalay hill - glass mosaics of many colors. Panoramic views of Mandalay - truly memorable

A lovely location to watch the sunset -- a lovely view of Mandalay and the surrounding area. Very peaceful surrounded by monks and animals!

The hill has a number of important pagodas that can be seen both during the day and illuminated at night.

I was amused to read peoples advice in terms of walking up the steps, taxi, elevator, etc. Yes it is a long way up. I walked the 1729 steps up and down and yes it takes about 30-45 minutes depending on how long you want to take. Once at the summit and on the way up there are wonderful views... More

Went to the temple yesterday. Unfortunately the elevator was not working. Had to climb about 120 steps. Nice golden temple. Sunset was nice

A good place to visit as the temples and pagodas are inteesting and the views fantastic. Be respectful as it is a place of worship, so shoes off, shoulders and knees covered!

This is one place that is worth a visit. Its up in the hill and visitors had two choice of getting there. There is a road that lead up the hill and the stairs. We took the car up as close to the site and climbed a short distance to the top. While the view was interesting, what attracted us... More

We climbed up the steps from Mandalay Hill (30-40 min., there's also an escalator) to see the sunset but were a bit disappointed. In february the sky is very dusty and the sunset is not really nice to look at. Even in mid-february where the high season should come to an end there were lots of tourists not so much... More

I walked up the hill on the southern side. Remember that you have to take off your shoes ALL THE WAY up! Take them with you in a bag! The views on my visit day in the morning were almost non-existent. It was foggy (or hazy) and there was nothing to see. If I did it again I would do... More
