Resembling an imposing castle fortress, this citadel was built in the 1480s by Sultan Qaitbey on the site of the Pharos Lighthouse, to protect the city from the crusaders who used to attack the city by sea.

Very nice tourist spot, a lot of climbing inside. You can see the view coming from a long way. Best to go in the mornings or lunch time arounds, the roads leading to can get pretty blocked. Many roadside souvenir shops!

Amazing to see a beautiful building since more than 800 years. The tickets are cheap. The view from upstairs and at rooftop you can see the Alexandria and you are standing inside the Mediterranean Sea

Standing majestically at the western end of the promenade, this picturesque fort holds the remains of the ancient lighthouse. Thanks for the vote if you found this review helpful.

A must see but beware of long lines. Visitors pay 60 Egyptian Pounds for entry but well worth the long lines. The views of the Mediterranean and this city are breathtaking.

This is a very pretty fort and has nice views of the Mediterranean Sea. Not very expensive to get in and you just walk round at your own pace.

This fort may be older than other forts we have visited, but it is much like other forts, except for the mosque inside the fort with the mosaic floor. Very nice.

This is a worthwhile site and provides an insight into part of Alexandria’s history. Once you buy a ticket, and it’s not expensive, you enter the complex and can start exploring. The main fort has lots of stairs and so comfortable shoes would be recommended....More
