About
Resembling an imposing castle fortress, this citadel was built in the 1480s by Sultan Qaitbey on the site of the Pharos Lighthouse, to protect the city from the crusaders who used to attack the city by sea.

This is a very pretty fort and has nice views of the Mediterranean Sea. Not very expensive to get in and you just walk round at your own pace.

This fort may be older than other forts we have visited, but it is much like other forts, except for the mosque inside the fort with the mosaic floor. Very nice.

I went to Egypt to see the pyramids & learn about the Pharaohs so Fort Qaitbey was not on my bucket list, but it was on our tour. It was interesting with a tour guide but to see by yourself - not so much.
