The national museum offers exhibitions of the different eras of Alexandria. And presents pieces from many epochs with the possibility of having a guided tour.

if you've seen other museums in Egypt, you don't really need to spend much time there.... The display is unclear to an extent that we discovered the pharaonic by coincidence (while looking for the WC) .... you may use it to explore what to look for in Alexandria, as it guides you to other places...

While not as big as the Egyptian museum in Cairo, it reveals the influence of Rome on ancient Egypt. Our tour guide (Zahraa Adel Awad) was very knowledgeable and make this visit an exceptional experience.

This museum is maintained to a very high standard... much better than the Egyptian museum in Cairo, this has controlled display cabinets and everything is clearly labelled. The best bit is hidden below the basement in the tomb, the only sign for this is a simple "the tomb" above the door....dont miss it!

Suprisingly interesting and varied museum showing artifacts from the range of eras that have occupied Alexandria over the centuries. The underwater sea wall discoveries are particularly fascinating.

By no means the largest museum in Egypt, Alexandria still has a very unique history that is less insular than that of Ancient Cairo, Luxor, Memphis and other Nile Valley civilizations.

Over 5000 years of historic artifacts are crammed in a limited space. Pharonic heritage, Greco-Roman, Byzantine, and Islamic era, are well integrated in a professional display despite the limited space. The building, owned by the US Consulate for decades, is a Ministry of Culture heritage building.
