Churches in Zadar are mainly stone buildings. St. Simon is different, decorated with red/ orange coating outside. This church is mainly closed and you need to check the timetable before your visit. Visiting inside is a must. Look at famous Škrinja sv. Šimuna, luxurious decorated...More

Our group was privileged to visit St Simon`s and appreciate the amazing history behind the story of Simeon who, according to the Bible, was there when Jesus` parents brought him to Jerusalem for the purification rite. A place of quiet reflection and prayer.

Sunday morning mass includes families and singles, and lovely, haunting music. Try to attend a mass if time affords.

We went in to see the famous sarcophagus. You can see it from 10 meters away, behind the rope - so I don't really know whether it was wort the visit. Apart from that there's nothing of interest inside.

It's only 50 metres from 5 Wells Square and worth a few minutes to look inside - entry is free / by donation. It's an early Christian three-nave basilica with notable Baroque alter paintings. Note that shoulder covering is needed to enter the church.

St Simon's reminds me more of reconstructed roman buildings than of a church. It has very simple red exterior with a few pillars and arched windows.

What a hidden nice little church in Zadar. It's not easy to find, but worth a visit. Just ask a local for directions and get there, it's wortj the walk.

Women-no tank tops/shorts and men no shorts allowed to enter. No photos allowed. You see the sarcophagus 25 feet behind a rope. Sort of disappointing. But the sarcophagus with St Simeon's remains is a work of art. They display his body on October 8, his...More
