You need to visit first thing in the morning before the crowds. During the day it gets too hot and very busy, some parts are quite narrow so inevitably lines form.

Walking the walls is not for the faint hearted. The first set of stairs will certainly test your lung capacity! But once walking the wall it’s an incredible experience and some amazing sights over Dubrovnik
Really incredible views of the city and the ocean. Definitely worth the money. Lots of steps so be prepared for a calf work out, but it’s worth it. Also has a couple of really cool bars with amazing views to stop and enjoy a drink.
A must-do in Dubrovnik, and worth it for the stunning views along the way. Best to start early to avoid the midday heat, but it was insanely busy at times.

The walk offers excellent views of the old town and surrounding area, be prepared for many, many steps. Unfortunately we picked a day when there were four cruise ships in the port and the place was very overcrowded, kind of pushed along in the flow....More

I would definitely use a private guide who can help you cover as much ground as possible for your time in Dubrovnik. I will search my files for the name of the guide we had. Well worth the money.
