    No fruit in sight.
The square when we went in early March 2023 was pretty empty, no fruit in sight or markets out. It was pretty much empty and had no real soul as it was not the tourist season. It might be better in summer but wasn't as good as I thought it would be.

    Not just another square
The square has several names and to the citizens of Split is more familiar under its unofficial name Fruit Square, rather than its official name of Trg Braće Radić (Square of the Radić brothers). Its "familiar" name comes from the fact that it was once home to the bustling and colourful market where women from the surrounding villages came to sell their fruit. There are several landmarks decorating this not so large a square thriving with city life in bars, restaurants and exclusive shops, a venue often used also by fairs. The biggest is certainly the octagonal Venetian tower, the leftover of the former fortress, built in the 15th century for the defence of, at the time, a small town. Opposite the tower is a magnificent Palace of the old family Milesi from the 17th century with a spectacular Baroque facade, one of the best examples of that style in the whole of Dalmatia. Just in front of it stands the monument by Ivan Meštrović to the father of the Croatian literature, the citizen of Split, Marko Marulić, who was one of the most important philosophers and intellectuals of the 15th century.

    Nice square
It's know as fruit market to the locals as it was there in the past. It's nice square with Milesi Palace and Venetian tower in the corner. There is also statue of a Croatian poet from the 15th century created by Ivan Meštrović who's museum of art is also in Split. And we found there also a very good ice cream shop.

This square was once a bustling and colourful market where women from the surrounding villages came to sell their fruit. Now the square is mainly a tourist area connecting to the city's main sites of interest. I never say any fruit markets when I was here, but there was a fruit market over in Pazar to the east. Plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants in the square.

Went after 12 pm and people had packed up a lot. Many stalls had similar items. The mandarins were everywhere and were tasty. The kiwis were hard and sour. People were nice. The tomatoes were good.

Cute place to see in the morning. Crowded but so much life. The grandmas are cute and all of the tables are filled with fruits and veggies.

There are various amazing attractions to visit in the Old Town of Split, Croatia and Fruit Square is definitely one which you should not miss.

It is considered to be one of the most beautiful not only in the city, but in the entire region because of the splendid Baroque architecture of the buildings that surround it.

The official name of this significant site is Trg Brace Radic or Radic Brothers’ Square. It got its nickname Vocni Trg or Fruit Square because people from the villages in the surrounding area used to sell their fruit and vegetables there. Now there are no stalls, but you can still enjoy a fruit salad or a smoothie prepared with fresh local produce.

Fruit Square is equally gorgeous and welcoming during the day and in the evening when the gentle light makes it one of the most romantic places in Split’s Old Town.

If you want to see the architectural details of the Baroque buildings that surround it, you’d better visit it when there is plenty of sunlight.

The octagonal Venetian tower is one of the oldest buildings around. It was built in 1435 as part of a fortified building and served as a watch tower for over three centuries. While it has lost its importance for the defense of the people living in the city, it’s still a marvelous example of a heroic past.

Perhaps the affectionate name tag of ‘Fruit Square’ refers to a bygone era. Not a hint of fruit - or any other type of food - in the square in December, January or February, but no matter.

This is a gorgeous square and functions as a main conduit between the Riva and the inner part of the Old Town. Not at all difficult to find and, in fact, most tourists will very likely pass through it without having to have specific directions. The jewel in its crown is the Venetian Tower.

We strolled around the market for about half and hour, and the colors and smell all around were pretty neat. There is so many little booth vendors showcasing their local goods. A great spot to experience the local culture of Split.
