Cathedral of Saint Domnius in Split Country Croatia Denomination Roman Catholic Architecture Style Ancient/Romanesque Years built 4th century Clergy The Cathedral of Saint Domnius (Croatian: Katedrala Svetog Duje), known locally as the Sveti Dujam or colloquially Sveti Duje, is the Catholic cathedral in Split, Croatia. The cathedral is the seat of the Archdiocese of Split-Makarska, headed by Archbishop Marin Barišić. The Cathedral of St. Domnius is a complex of a church, formed from an Imperial Roman mausoleum, with a bell tower; strictly the church is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, and the bell tower to Saint Domnius. Together they form the Cathedral of St. Domnius. The Cathedral of Saint Domnius, consecrated at the turn of the 7th century AD, is regarded as the oldest Catholic cathedral in the world that remains in use in its original structure, without near-complete renovation at a later date (though the bell tower dates from the 12th century). The structure itself, built in AD 3

This cathedral is quite small, and doesn’t take much time to see it, but it has some ornate features that are interesting including an unusual Christ on a forked (Y-shaped) cross in the area behind the altar. The bell tower is very worthwhile (cost is...More

There is definitely a climb to the top of the tower and the steps are a bit uneven but totally worth it and the view is gorgeous! You are in the middle of the city!!

Incredible views from the top and well worth the climb and small entrance fee. Slightly scary for those that do not like heights as the staircase is quite open, but the views are worth it!

All of the surrounding are great and lively, the Church, Shops, market, cafe, and view of a very lovely city. To climb up to the tower is not that bad. Just enjoy the moment....

The beautiful view over the city is worth the climb. Be aware if your afraid of heights tho, but my partner managed to do it anyway. My tip is to be there early in the morning when it opens. No one will be there, you...More

Really beautiful and peaceful inside and the Bell Tower is fantastic. I paid to see all of the areas of the Cathedral, and it was worth the price. Beautiful Roman architecture inside the building and very much a 'must see' when in Split.

If you still have energy left and will like a better look at the city, you can pay a small fee too climb up the bell tower to look around.

The area around Diocletian’s Palace is quite flat, so it’s worth paying a small fee to climb the steps of this 60m bell tower to gain a sense of the area taken up by the palace and the harbour, city and hills beyond.

Everyone seems obsessed with the tower, but I loved the inside of this very old, actually one of the oldest cathedrals in the world-built AD 305, lovely example of ancient Roman Architecture! As soon as you come close to this very tourist area in Split,...More

What a view. One of the best sight I ever saw. From the old palace to the sea with couple of islands in back. If the sky is clear you can almost see Italy. Worth of climbing. Higly recommended.
