We knew nothing about the artist before our visit but came away happy to have visited. It's an easy 10-15 minute walk from the western edge of the harbour area. Many sculptures and drawings including outside in the pleasant but slightly unkempt garden. Disappointing that the cafe wasn't open early afternoon. Not sure why. Perhaps not enough visitors to justify.

You don't need to be a patron of the arts to appreciate the fine works of Ivan Mestrovic. Clearly, he was a master sculptor whose works on a par with Rodin. My husband and I spent over 2 hours looking at the sculptures in the gallery as well as in the garden. We even ventured further down the road to... More

This museum is wonderful if you enjoy sculpture. Meštrović is an excellent artist. Very expressive works. I would warn any parent who don't want their children to see genitalia to beware. I will be back many times for inspiration! and the Kaštelet is worth a visit for the wood panels of Christ's life. Exquisite work. And the view from both... More

Mestrovic was a student of Rodin and it shows. The former villa with its scenic view of the Adriatic coast is a wonderful and peaceful location for the best collection of his art in the world.

I visited here in early October 2016. I appreciate art but am by no means an expert. Had never heard of Mestrovic until I visited Split for the 1st time. So glad I read about this gallery. Nice meandering walk along the sea to get there. I had to ask directions from a local as to which staircase to climb... More

Mestrovic is little known by the general Public outside Croatia, even the art-educated like me! Yet he left his sculpture all over the Balkans, was feted in London in the early 20th century and commissioned for several monumental works in the US. This museum presents a lovely summary of his life's work and the stylistic developments he went through. There... More

Classicist stone palace with nice view above the seaside is mixture of pure architecture and good sculptures. You walk between portraits, saints, very strong bodies and more. Stone sculptures are better than Rodin. Visit on your own, in silence, alone or just in a small group. This is not a spot for children, for groups. Pure joy. Don’t miss the... More

An absolute must visit place in Split. Beautiful Arts and Craft building and grounds housing some brilliant work by Mestrovic and his former home/ showroom. Fascinating film about his life and work.

While there are smaller pieces to check out, he is better known for his large, Henry Moore types which are well represented here. Some of you will recognize the elongation of the features from his works in Chicago of the Bowman and the Spearman, or of course, also there in Split of the Wizard near the Diocletian Palace. But, the... More

Even if you are not aware of the sculptor, Ivan Mestrovic, you will enjoy this beautiful museum. It does not take long, but the house is magnificent - clean contemporary designs for the 1930's. All is travertine stone and marble. And the sculptures are spectacular. He conveys such emotion through his sculptures...suffering, beauty, courage, reverie, motherhood, exile. Truly grasps the...
