Description:

Our company has evolved as a leader in reintroducing Maya jade to the world...

Our company has evolved as a leader in reintroducing Maya jade to the world through the discovery, mining and working of Guatemala's fine jadeite jade. Guatemala shares with Myanmar (formerly Burma) the distinction of being one of the world's major sources of this fine stone.

Jades S.A., now Jade Maya, made the decision to re-establish a jade carving industry in Guatemala and opened its doors in the 1970's and remains the largest jade operation in Central and South America.

Jade Maya is a totally integrated jade company founded in 1974 by archaeologist Mary Lou Rindinger and her husband Jay Ridinger. We mine fine jadeite jade which is found mainly in Guatemala and Burma, but valued throughout the world. The source discovered and used by Jade Maya, are the same used by the Ancient Maya people of Mesoamerica. The jade is cut and polished in our factory by native Guatemalan workers who are recovering and preserving the carving traditions of their ancestors.

The raw jade is transformed into pre-Columbian style museum quality replicas and exquisite handmade unique fine fashion jewelry. All finished products go directly into our showroom, wisely avoiding the middleman and providing a superior product at a superior price. Jade Maya presently has eight shops in Guatemala, our main showroom and factory is located at 4a. Calle Oriente No. 34, Antigua Guatemala, Central America.

This is an interesting place to visit if you are interested in Guatemalan jade. Located near the entrance to the city, it’s a 15-20 minute walk from the center of town and most hotels. You will find an excellent collection of items made from different shades of local Jade, made authentically as the Mayas made jade items, mostly by pieces... More

We were with a cruise ship tour and I was tired and grumpy by the time we arrived. We were given a small gift of a crocheted bag with a tiny doll inside when we arrived. I thoroughly enjoyed the owner's presentation and we learned a ton. I also appreciated how she was providing jobs in a community that over... More

This is a great place to spend time! The archaeologist who found jade in Guatemala owns the store. I met her and spoke with her. She is passionate about jade and treats her staff well; from what they told me, she's like one of the locals. You can learn about how jade was found, how it gets mined, processed and... More

I was fortunate enough to visit the Jade Maya, on an afternoon when the founder was there. Her story about finding the mine and promoting it as a business opportunity for her community was fascinating. There was also a large book, where one could look up their Mayan Astrological sign. The jewlery is not only gorgeous and durable , but... More

This was a cool stop on our trip through Antigua. They provide a Free tour and history lesson (in perfect English if you require). Really interesting facts about Jade, where it comes from, how they find it, make it, shape it etc. There is of course a shopping area at the end with some beautiful items ranging from inexpensive tourist... This isn't just a store. It's also a very informative learning center. I went in expecting to spend 15 minutes or so browsing but wound up spending more than an hour learning about the history of jade in Guatemala and its cultural importance. I also left with a gorgeous pendant I'm wearing now. I can't keep my fingers off it,... More

We went to the Jade Factory and Museum as part of an shore excursion from Puerto Quetzal. The tour was very educational as they explained the different kinds of jade that are available and what chemicals are needed for the various colours. We could also see where they make the jade jewelry. The store is also very nice with helpful... More

I learned so much at the Jade Maya - The Original Jade factory and Museum. I didn't realize that so much jade originates from Central America nor that there are so many colors of jade. Be sure to touch the good luck jade rock formation that is in the middle of the showroom and really looks like a large rock... More

Really neat store/factory/museum. Tons of jewelry to look at as well as an opportunity to see how the jade is cut, polished, and prepared for setting in jewelry. Ernesto was super helpful and helped us customize a ring.
