In a city of ancient ruins, Convento Santa Clara stands out as one or the most powerful and beautiful. Great place to spend 3 or 4 hours in and don't worry about a guide. The one we encountered seemed to be a con artist anyway, and you will do just fine without one. Tons of good photo ops.

These ruins, are surrounded by a beautiful garden, which makes the ruins romatinc and kind of magical. My favorite parts were the fountain, the upper choir and the old façade. The entrance is a little expensive compared to other ruins (Q40), but it's still worth a visit.

Many warnings here for unofficial guides. Tip for the fellows: do not accept any offer in the beginning. Just enter and look at the site alone and in all peace. At the end, if you have questions or want to know more of some details, make a deal with the guide. Thus, no problems would arise.

Beautiful it was worth 40 q (5.00) the way they preserve the building and doing the restoration of it. We walked the area by ourselves. Then we were offered a tour which we refuse but the guide kept following us. So we figure ok Just let him be. At the end he told us the cost was $100.00. He's a... More

Large ruins with lots to see. Pretty large grounds to wander around on. Close to downtown. It's funny one of the reviews says "beware of tour guide Marcellino." This guy got me too. I know better, but bit off anyway. He is wearing a shirt that makes him look like an official guide, but once he is done, he gouges... More

Came to this site with a group and our Guatemala hosts had already organized a guide for us. He was extremely informative and well worth having. Unfortunately, it appears we did not view all parts of the convent. More than likely because of time restraints and the size of our group. If I was very to return to Antigua, I... More

Antigua has so many fabulous churches and convents. Santa Clara is no exception, lovely church, and surroundings.

The ruinas are impressive and extensive. Some parts partially restored or undergoing restoration. This complex is so large that you need to allow a minimum of 90 minutes to see it all. The main cathedral is massive. There are numerous underground crypts but they are closed off due to so many loser graffiti artists defacing them. We paid 90q pp... More

The Convento Santa Clara is beautiful and interesting. A guide approached me as I entered and he gave a wonderful tour. He showed me all the accessible rooms, explained what they were used for and told me what life was like for the nuns living there. At the end, he wanted $20 for the tour. I paid him but felt...
