This monumental arch was built as a passageway between the monastery and adjoining school. The buildings were constructed to accommodate an increase in religious followers during the 17th century.

Iconic spot in Antigua and makes for a fantastic photo especially with the massive volcano in the background.

At time of visiting it was being repaired/repainted. But it is still beautiful and also at night when lit up.

I take a walk here at least once a day. Beautiful! You will find restaraunts, vendors, travel agencies, magicians, snacks, wine bars, clothing stores, crepes, local fruits and nut, so much more on this one street.

Located in a pedestrian street is the perfect place for a photo, take a walk, do some window shopping, or even taking your time to watch local art.

The arch is prominently displayed in many of the city’s paintings, photos and tapestries. It’s a simple hop from Plaza Central and can be viewed in 10 minutes or so! It’s a great photo opportunity.

Really enjoyed visiting this arch in the middle of town. On Saturday the street was closed and there were vendors selling fruit and trinkets.
