Monkey Island Tour from Panama City

172 reviews
Monkey Island lies on Gatun Lake, along the Panama Canal, and is renowned for its large population of monkeys, along with other wildlife. On this tour, set sail on a scenic riverboat cruise around the lake and the Chagres River; look out for wildlife such as slothes, iguanas, and crocodiles; and spot four different types of monkey on the island—mantled howler, white-faced capuchin, Geoffroy’s tamarin, and lemurine owl monkeys.

We stayed at La Maracuya just down the road from the lake and came up here to hike the mountain over the lake. Wow, the views from the top were spectacular. A great day trip for sure.

of course this place is a bit far away from the City BUT it is totally worth it. Just go with a rented paddle board or contact a guide like wanderpanther, voyairpanama and they will hook you up. Camping is just insanely fun and it just about 2hrs from the city, so not bad.

The lagoon of San Carlos is a very quiet place, although sometimes there are people who make noise with their music or leave trash, but it does not happen often. the road before arriving is rustic. Once you arrive you have to pay the entrance and you have the option to stay in the lagoon, swim in the lake, go kayaking, do camping or climb the Pichacho hill. We spent a nice day.

Nothing special. You can't fish there, you don't want to swim there. You can drink & BBQ but then you have to drive back down the mountain unless you plan to camp.
