It's a beautiful and interesting walk from one end to the other, seeing the ruins, the exiting skyscrapers, and the cranes over the future skyscrapers under construction. The museum has a number of very interesting pieces on display.

A nice wide paved road runs direct from the parking area/museum through the wooded area alongside mangrove forests in the Bay and slightly wooded area about a mile-ish or less, past several ruins of various stages and sizes. One church large enough to climb and...More

I visited Panama La Vieja with a local guide so I got the history lesson to go along with the ruins. I highly recommend seeing this and having a guide. It is a little bit of walking if it is hot out but worth it.

A great place to learn about the history of the original settlement until it was ransacked by the infamous British buccaneer, Henry Morgan in 1671. You can explore the ruins and do climb the main tower to enjoy the view of the new city from...More

What a great place to visit and see the 1580's ruins of old Panama. Provides a great lesson of growth and establishment of church and Spain in Panama. Self directed with convenient tram and museum. New museum will open soon with gift shop and restrooms.

If you have time this is part of the history of Panama. Years ago the old city had become decayed and populated by many squatters. The government has not moved them out and made and attempt to bring back the Old City.

I have been to Panama Vieja a couple of times with different friends. Each time we go we discover more as they are constantly excavating and working on uncovering its secrets. The convent down the street from the cathedral is especially impressive.
