Fresh fish galore
Mar 2021
If you are looking for fresh fish to take home and cook, and I was, this is the place to go. A lot of vendors with all the seafood of the area, most of it caught within the last 24 hours.

why cover fish fillet with sauce?
Feb 2020 • Couples
When walking up into fish market people approach you with $10 meal offers. as you walk people will show you on the telephone what their meals look like And try to get you to eat there. I walk down toward the end by the water and a young man showed me pictures of their plates of food he did not tell me how much it would be . we got one plate of fried whole snapper with shrimp and one fillet of snapper with Langostinos. They said two free beers came with it of Balboa beer.
Our bill was almost $70. We drink the two free beers and two more and had two dinners.
because we were gringos they thought they could rip us off my husband has Panamanian citizenship so we did get a discount for his meal. my food was not like the picture the sauce was poured over the top of the fish and the prawns and ruin the fresh taste.
the waiter also said don’t forget the tip, really!

Good seafood, and good value if you are careful.
Feb 2020 • Couples
The seafood is good and reasonably priced. My wife and I ate there three times, each time at a different stall. But to avoid annoyances it is best to be aware of a few unfair practices. All the stalls have Spanish and English menus and servers who try to persuade you to go to their’s. At busy times you can feel hassled. Promotions are offered that have little value and may be forgotten once you sit at a table. The servers recommend the most expensive dishes. Be clear about the price of the dishes and drinks you order. Some dishes come in different sizes and so different prices. Otherwise relax and enjoy the food.

Crowded, Something to see
Feb 2020 • Friends
I think this is a must see places, by the water, but in the afternoon, things are sort of winding down, and the restaurant area has lots of annoying hawkers that pester you to eat at their location.

My daughter and I actually avoided the restaurant area after the first time we passed by (on subsequent walks in the area.) interesting fishing boats, some wreckage nearby.

Fresh
Jan 2020 • Couples
We visited the Mercado de Mariscos on a Monday around 11:15a. It was very interesting with all of the fresh seafood, however not all the tables were full. I expected it to be a bustling seafood market and it was pretty empty. Not sure if the boats were not in yet or what, but it was somewhat anti-climatic. There is a restaurant in the upper level that looked good, however we didn’t eat there. It was clean and there were restrooms available. There is also a covered walkway from the parking lot at the street level to get in there.

One tip for parking, is the lot right next door. It’s secure. We missed it on the way in and parked at a side street “lot” which services autos, specifically tires, only to get scammed by the guy about having a screw in our tire that was not there before. So we had to pay $5 USD to get the tire fixed and it took an extra 40 min.

Go there in the morning
Dec 2019 • Friends
This place is ok if you want to eat sea food. It’s ok to visit it in the morning or at noon, it’s not crowded.
The smell ...well, there is nothing you can do about it, it’s a fish market, after all.

Good if you were thinking of cooking
Aug 2019 • Couples
If you want to buy good ocean food you should go there.
We went to lunch: It was a noisy place, hot and with a lot of guys trying to make you eat in one of the restaurants.

Don't GO
Jul 2019 • Couples
There are about 40 fish food stands, with hucksters in front of each one. We choose one at random and what a mistake. For lunch and two Panamanian beers the bill should have been about $20-25, wrong. The unknowing Americans paid $60. And to top it off we both got sick. Not a fun lunch. Not worth your time.

Great cultural experience *YOU WILL GET HAGGLED*
Jul 2019 • Family
The fish market was a great experience. One thing to note is that the main patio area is several small restaurants that share a common seating space. Advice: it’s best not to try looking over each menus—just pick a place and sit! It’s all from the fishmarket anyway! Over the course of our trip we tried a few different restaurants within the market and they were all equally good.

A must-do if you visit Panama City. i go a few times during all my trips to panama. they've done a great job renovating the market making it more comfortable and organized. you get large servings of fresh lobster ceviche for a few bucks. Absolutely delicious and affordable. plus its right across from Casco Viejo!
