Description:

We invite you to step back in time with us on a tour to visit the Embera...

We invite you to step back in time with us on a tour to visit the Embera tribe who still live in traditional villages deep in the rainforest of Panama. The Embera people are proud to share their culture and traditions with visitors. Spending time on a day or overnight tour with the friendly Embera people will touch your heart and is an experience you will never forget. Our founder, Anne Gordon de Barrigon, is married to an Embera man and began these tours to share the beauty of her Embera family and friends with others.

Note: this page is for the tours offered by Anne Gordon de Barrigon's tour company, Embera Village Tours and not for other tour operators who also offer tours to visit other Embera villages throughout Panama.

We departed from the Gamboa Rainforest Resort for our visit to the Embera Village and upon arrival we were very warmly received by the tribal members. Once we disembarked from our boat, we were welcomed to a very large hut where they showed us many of their tribal dances and even invited those in the crowd to join. During our... More

The most amazing day. A truly cultural experience from beginning to end. Well worth any money spent. Our guide Jorge was so friendly and knowledgeable and just a joy to be with. So much so that we booked 2 more days with him The Embera people were warm and very friendly and very eager to learn about us and to... More

Our group (88 of us) had the pleasure of visiting the Embera Peru Village in Chagres National Park with Anne Gordon de Barrigon on April 24, 2017. We had the most wonderful time - I don't think words can express how much we enjoyed this trip. Meeting the tribe, learning about their culture and history, enjoying lunch they prepared for... More

We have nothing but wonderful things to say about Anne Gordon and this tour to the Embera Puru village in Chagres National Park. We had some ethical reservations about doing this type of tour, and we picked this one specifically because Anne is part of the community. And this was very clear when we visited the tribe. Anne is clearly... More

We enjoyed the small community tour and their welcoming party. The native explained somewhat about the tribes history and culture. Several dances were performed and we were then allowed to walk around a small area or shop for some of their crafts . It's a very small area ( less than a basketball court ) in size.

A motorized ride in a dug-out canoe to get to the Embera Village along the river banks of the Chagres National Park was an adventure by itself. The Emberas were very welcoming. The village Chief shared with us in his own Embera language basic information about the tribe - its customs, traditions, and family/daily life. Traditional dances, music, handcrafted items,... More

This tour proved to be a true highlight of our stay in Panama. Anne was fantastic - she picked us up right on time at our hotel and was a fount of knowledge about the Embrera people and about Panama. She keeps her groups small and the resulting tour is intimate and revelatory. Her community - and it is hers... More

On March 10th, my wife and I took the Embera Village Tour, on March 13th, we did snorkeling and historic Portobelo tour, and on March 14th we did a customized Panama City Tour. All three tours Jorge was our guide. At Embera, the warmth of the villagers was evident as they welcomed us and shared a glimpse of their lives... More

Such an amazing experience to go by canoe to the village taken by a member of the tribe. They made us very welcome, cooked us a meal served in a leaf, showed us how they make their craft work and colored the materials with natural things. We were given time to wonder around the village and see their houses. They... More
