Gerardo is a knowledgeable guide and great fun to boot. He’s a conscious fisherman who knows where the good spots are. His boats are comfortable and he is very accommodating. Will definitely fish with again!

If you want to catch fish, you have to contact this guy! Gerardo had a full schedule so he set us up with one of his fishing guides called Mingui. The tour starts at the Gamboa Rainforest Resort Marina around 6:30am. Mingui did an excellent job putting us on the fish and keeping us safe. You do not require experience or equipment as they will provide everything you need! And if you do have your own equipment, you are more than welcome to bring it. All of their boats are fairly comfortable, carry life jackets and a retractable bimini-top which is great because the sun can be scorching around mid day. Mingui took us to several different spots and we tried different techniques, from trolling to casting and even live bait fishing. We where very successful and as soon as the fish stopped bitting we moved on to a different spot. We covered a large portion of the lake. Some of the species you can target are Peacock bass, Snook, Tarpon, Jack Crevalle, and even Corvina. They have a catch and release policy with bass over 3 pounds and tarpon of any size which is great for the conservation of the species. Over all I would totally recommend this fishing charter. Their service is top notch, safe and very friendly. They will put you on some serious fish!

Fished for a half day with Gerardo, who quickly responded to my messages even though I scheduled the trip super last minute- the night before! Went with my girlfriend in the afternoon. Was a bit sunny/windy so did some trolling and had some hits. Then moved on to some casting. What great gear! Gerardo has braided line with floro leaders, plus great reels- including a Shimano Curado DC (if you’re into fishing, you know this is top of the line stuff). He’s clearly both a passionate fisherman and guide, not just a fishing guide who does it as a job. As such, he upgrades hooks on the lures and uses great equipment, going above and beyond what I had expected. He was super kind to my girlfriend and helped her rig some live bait for easy fishing while I used mostly artificial lures. Gerardo was able to quickly teach her how to make casts with a rod/reel, and she started to catch fish even though she had barely ever fished before! Was so great to be able to transition from trolling, casting artificials, and live bait as the weather conditions dictated. Caught several peacock bass, and had a big one explode on a topwater that unfortunately got off. Really felt like I was doing the fishing (as opposed to the guide casting lines, setting the hook, and simply letting the guest reel it in), and was fun to target shoreline structure by making precise casts. Gerardo brought snacks and drinks. Plus, we got to visit the Monkey islands too!! Overall, an amazing trip and would highly recommend to everyone, regardless of whether you’re a beginner to fishing or super experienced!

I would totally recommend this excursion and I hope to go back soon! I went fishing with my girlfriend and we had an amazing day with Gerardo. Gerardo was recommended to me at "The Fishing Store" in Panama as one of the most knowledgeable guides for the lake and boy he didn't disappoint. The day before the trip we talked on the phone and asked for our food and drinks preferences.Gerardo picked us up at 5.30am sharp and safely drove us to Gamboa, where the boat ramp is. We loaded the boat and a little bit passed 6 we were on our way to the fishing grounds. We had planned for half day of fishing and half day of boat tour (visiting a local tribe, an island with monkeys, bird watching and crocodiles! lots of nature) so my girlfriend doesn't get bored. In the end we fished all day since it was so much fun! Gerardo not only is a great captain, he knows every inch of the lake. He comes on his freetime and does research of new spots. Species one can find Peackock bass, Snook and Tarpon are the most sought after and he knows a place for each one. One of the things I liked the most was that in one day I got to fish 3 different ways (fly fish, baitcast and spinning). Gerardo provides all the equipment and has an immense array of lures to choose from (all the sizes and colors you can imagine). I even tried a new technique while baitcasting called "walking the dog" which was incredibly effective. He was very educational. You can also choose to live bait. Another thing that I liked is that we kept on the move looking for fish all day. We almost covered half the lake (the landscape changes, and nature is outstanding!!). As soon as the bite slows down, he turns on the engine and up to the next spot! He wasn't cheap on fuel like others. He tries to provide the best time and he delivered. Thanks to him I got my first snook and first peacock. Also included in the trip were drinks, lunch and snacks. Thank you very much Gerardo for a great time and hope we can come back soon!
