Kiev has quite some famous cathedrals and monasteries in the city centre, visited by tourists. Where you find the local people going to church is in the quiet peaceful monastery of the nuns (completely covered in black) of Voznesenskyi (the holy ascension Florovskiy convent). Almost hidden from the street at address Florivska Street 6/8, enter the gate and you will... More

It is well worth the time to visit the burial cave. Glass caskets of venerated saints. Women must wear a dress. They do provide a wrap skirt loaner if you do not have a skirt. It is a religious site.

When you call at the gate of convent, a wall cuts off you from civilization. There are green, but not gold domes there. There are a lot of flowers. And there is a spring of saint water. They feed poor people there. I was there with the guide by Ladya Tour from Kiev. I like it.

We walked to the Florivski Monastery (after a few twists and turns) from Sagaidachnogo St, but it might be better reached from Contractor's Square which is 100-200 metres away. The area outside the monastery entrance is reminiscent of a small park with people on benches; it crossed my mind that the people were waiting for something from inside. The area... More
