Built in 1935 to commemorate the fallen of WW1, the arch is a replacement for the original one which was constructed in 1922 from wood. There is provision for visitors to climb to the very top - however, it appears that facility is rarely open.
Beautiful surroundings to walk and relax. Great decorations on festivities and all of December. Nice, pintoresque "cartiers" nearby. Next to Herastrau Park and Museul Satului.
Oddly, this Romanian version of Paris' Arc de Triomphe is NOT along the Romanian version of the Champs-Élysées. Interesting to see as you drive by, but not worth a special trip.
It is definitely worth seeing. I've never tried to go in, as it has never been open when I've been by. It is a great place for pictures!
