The Monument to the Unknown Soldier (Bulgarian: Паметник на Незнайния воин, Pametnik na Neznayniya voin) is a monument in the centre of Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, located just next to the 6th-century Church of St Sophia, on 2 Paris Street. The monument commemorates the hundreds of thousands of Bulgarian soldiers who died in wars defending their homeland.

As always, such monuments are very moving. This one is very understated, but more powerful for being so.

This beautiful lion waits for you between the Cathedral and the eldest church in Sofia. Very impressive but lies almost at a ground pedestal so you can enjoy every detail of it.

Nice monument to the Unknown Warrior, originally for WW1. The lion sculpture nearby is the symbol of Bulgaria.

Lion statue guardian but pretty basic memorial. Broader range of honorees than usual. Basically a walk by memorial.

In Sofia I did not miss a leons figures at all. There are everywhere: here you can see one of the best examples for impressive figures just on the eye level!
