tired museum in need of freshing up.

In a great location but really a very so-so collection. Equivalent in Plovdiv much better. Could almost see as much in an average "folk" restaurant. Only if you've got time on... read more

Although the few artifacts were interesting this is clearly a poorly funded museum. There is tremendous potential but the exhibit is very small and hasn't really been invested in.

Very definitely worth a trip. A fascinating collection of items that takes you through the history of Bulgaria.

The exhibition is about the story of a local lady that did research on Bulgarian traditions, especially clothing. The information is basically in Bulgarian and unless you speak the language, you do not really understand. It took me less than 20 minutes to finish the visit, so I'd rather spend the 5 lev in a nice coffee.

Seriously the worse museum I've ever visited. Not even worth a minute of your time. Well, just one minute with the cute little old lady downstairs in the apron section.

The image above is the most exciting thing about the museum. I was quite prepared for weaving. Oh yes, throw in a bit of cooking/baking equipment and some agricultural implements, fine! This is the stuff of ethnographic museums, but no. This museum focused on the work on one researcher who had instigated this project (think I've got that correct) so... More

A small but distinctive collection well presented and informative. Make sure you talk to Ilyana, a guide at the museum. A pleasant person indeed and amine of information.

A very interesting and well laid out little museum (the museums in Bulgaria are among the best designed I've ever seen) the institute had a very interesting collection of artifacts, textiles, pottery, etc. and a very knowledgeable guide who was honest about how authentic everything was. This left me with a feeling that I could judge the quality of wares... More

If it had not been for the excellent temporary weaving exhibit and the wonderful Crafts Shop which gave us a preview of Bulgarian crafts on our first day in Bulgaria, I would have given this museum three stars. However, the temporary exhibit featured a woman who was working doing her weaving. Her English was great and she gave us a... More

Unless I missed something, the only thing to visit was an exposition about carpets and a collection of authentic Bulgarian clothes. Those things were interesting, but it takes more to make an ethnographic museum. Since the entrace fee is very cheap anyway, I would recommend it if you have less than one hour left that you don't know how to... More
