Impactful museum

Definitely worth a visit. Very well done museum. I'd highly recommend it. Close to center city and can probably do it in an hour or two.

Probably the most moving museum I have ever visited. The curators and staff have done an amazing job finding an empathetic way to present such a difficult topic. Even my 15 year old was captivated. Bravo.

Wanted and expected more

There is a need for more about this museum. It lacks an impactful senss for me. The objects presented lack a more personal feeling of the people related. Even a picture of the person with the item.
It is a lesser version of the Museum of Broken Relationships located in Zagreb.

A very unique and worthwhile experience

This is a beautiful and bittersweet museum just off the beaten path and is well worth visiting. It really rounded out my understanding of the 90’s war seeing it through this tangible perspective and the narrative unfortunately continues on today with other war-torn areas and the impact upon the youngest generation deprived of their normal childhood. This is a very unique museum that deserves attention.

A place of both reflection and to celebrate childhood and resilience
May 2019
This was without a doubt the best and most moving of all the museums and exhibitons I visited in Sarajevo, The War Childhood Museum aims to protect and preserve the memories of those children who grew up and experienced their childhood during the Balkans War and in particular, the siege of Sarajevo for the education of others.

It contains a variety of different artefacts and personal belongings from those children - letters, toys, musical instruments, drawings and so on, together with writings from those indivduals as to what those items represent and the memories associated with them, painting a unique picture of what it was and is like to grow up during such times. The exhibiton has justifiably won many awards and is a must see - a place of both reflection and to celebrate childhood and the resilience of these brave individuals and thier families.

Moving collection of artifacts from the war, a must see for anyone learning in Sarajevo!
Jan 2020
The War Childhood Museum has a wonderful history, and its mission is very well thought out as a way of preserving the narratives of children in conflict zones. A must see museum for anyone learning in Sarajevo, especially for a different perspective on conflict.

A little great moving place of reflection
May 2019
Humanity has its own flaws for centuries, and still hasn't suprassed on of the biggest ones, war. This museums gives you the opportunity to feel how a child felt during the Sarajevo siege. Every object has its own tale, all of them moving, touching, sad, among other feelings that you can experience this collection.

Interesting and thought-provoking collection
Nov 2019
Interesting and thought-provoking collection, including videotaped interviews with adults who lived through the war as kids. The book is a great accompaniment to a visit. Would love to see more from the creators of this museum!
