The hill from Atuona was a bit steep in the hot sun, but it was worth it to reach the cemetery where Paul Gauguin is buried. Also buried there is the Belgium singer Jacques Brel. People were stunned when I asked who Brel was, but...More

I enjoyed a nice walk from Atuona to the cemetary. I was able to see beautiful vistas along the way. Until this day, I didn't know much about Jacque Brel. Discovering Jacque Brel's story was so interesting. He was not only a musician but made...More

Both Paul Gaugin and Jaques Brel's graves are here. There is a poem nearby the Grave of Brel which touched me a lot. A good way to present your homage to these extraordinary artists is to visit their graves.

If you are a fan of Paul Gauguin or Jacques Brel (I had not heard of the latter) then the cemetery where they are buried is worth a visit. Otherwise go for the wonderful view. It is quite a hot climb so go by vehicle.

This cemetery is noted for the tombs of Paul Gauguin and Jacques Brel (who was actually Belgian). It also has spectacular views over the bay.
